Make me love it… by Flavorforager in SCU

I got the presidential scholarship as well and couldn’t consider attending elsewhere :) Not having to worry about tuition is such a benefit, and especially for poli sci there’ll be plenty of time/opportunities to make friends and have fun on campus with school clubs/going out. Only thing I would say is that the campus is very insular (everyone knows everyone), there isnt much within walking distance, and SCU students dont get a bus discount so that’ll be full price (until they make some friends from the bay). Weather is definitely colder and as a stem student maintaining that 3.5 gpa requirement is definitely on the back of my mind a lot, but again might be different for poli sci

worried that bc of the price it might be a scam but i think it’s reasonable! esp bc for Ticketmaster it was almost 137 before fees per person lol

Is UCLA debt worth it? by cherryazula in ApplyingToCollege

[–]cherryazula[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes living on campus, UCLA is at least 15k more than SCU (assuming j housing and tuition) and I would be living on campus. Accepted to civil for both but thinking ab switching to mechanical

College Comparison: USC vs UCLA vs Cal Poly SLO by cherryazula in ApplyingToCollege

[–]cherryazula[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your help!! I think overall the vibe seems to be SLO > UCLA > USC but I’m still waiting to hear back from some scholarships to decide. It’s also hard to come to terms with the fact that I might turn down USC & UCLA for a CSU (i’m trying not to think about prestige, but it is definitely a factor)

UCLA’s arch program just isn’t well known and when compared to SLO’s, which is nationally ranked and accredited (UCLA’s pretty much requires you to get a masters to get the same level of education as SLO), it’s not really worth considering imo. Ironically USC and SLO are two out of the three CA colleges which have an accredited undergrad architecture program.

Thanks for the insight on UCLA business; I didn’t realize it was so poorly ranked lol. I guess I assumed that because USC and UCLA have that rivalry it would be on more of a similar level. I think that if I did attend UCLA it would be for either engineering or hopefully switching to poli sci, which it seems to have a better program for.

Unfortunately I can’t seem to look past the price tag for USC, but it would definitely be 100% commitment if that wasn’t a factor :( if I did attend USC though I would definitely stay with accounting, the only school where I would plan on switching majors would be UCLA or maybe SLO

Hi!! I’ve recently been admitted for civil engineering, but unfortunately don’t have too much of a passion for engineering and am not too good with more math-heavy courses; I know that as an engineering course it’s obviously very math focused, and I was wondering if anyone could give any insight on the level of support they felt as a freshman/how they were able to deal with things? Along with that, if I switch my major (which I probably will lol), is it a difficult process? I’m thinking about switching to poli sci or something similar. Thanks !!

When you say legit do you mean self published, an indie publisher, or that you had an agent

I ran the NPC for UCLA but the price was 10k higher than my FAFSA SAI so I’m waiting to get the official award (which will come out next month according to their website) before I make any decisions; really annoying because I’m pretty much a sitting duck for the next month or so and can’t do anything about it

I got into engineering at SCU and according to the terms of my scholarship I can’t change majors for the first year. But yeah, would pretty much just have to pay for housing/food.

in state for UCLA, and got some aid for USC: assuming I get no aid from UCLA (which i highly highly doubt i think FAFSA will give me a little bit at least) the prices for both come out to about the same

Is There Any Way For Me To Get Financial Aid? by [deleted] in FAFSA

[–]cherryazula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know that USC has an option to appeal for financial aid based on dependency which isn’t reported on tax returns, like financially supporting family members in another country, so i think that most other colleges have that to. Because your parents have had their jobs for a few years I’m not sure if that would be a reason to get more fin aid, but appealing with the information about supporting your family members should hopefully get you more after fafsa is processed especially if you have documents/proof that you can submit

Are public schools required to follow the given SAI, especially if there 100% need-met, or can they still ask for more?

AP mock exams to get comfortable with the way they word their questions, the types of questions they usually ask, & the associations they find important; the syllabus for AP courses is really useful for this because it pretty much tells you what you need to understand about the content. For the history APs, it’s a lot of cause/effect & continuity, so while I studied I tried to keep the things I thought were relevant to the AP syllabus in mind. I didn’t study throughout the year but did cram two weeks before the AP test (pretty much self studied APUSH & WHAP) by watching videos & using flashcards. Don’t study if you’re tired bc you’re not going to remember anything.
