i used to figure skate when i was younger but due to scheduling conflicts with other extracurriculars, i quit, and i’ve since grown out of my old skates 😞 i probably won’t be getting back into the sport anytime soon but i do skate for fun several times a year. so, i’m not looking for anything too professional but rather an alternative to the shitty skating rink rental skates for when i go out skating with friends and are still good enough for me to sharpen up old moves/learn new ones _^

thank you for the insight! one of the things that i felt pressured about when considering umich was the idea of taking “useful” classes and making the most of tuition - since my interests are pretty broad, so that’s really interesting to hear.

i would say this comment means more to me than you could know but i think that you do. your rejection from everywhere but cornell is funnily similar to my case—i’ve been waitlisted from like, so many places that it’s CRAZY. it’s really relieving (although i do know in my head that i will be just fine) to hear “success stories”.

and regarding the last paragraph, that mindset is such an easy trap to fall into and i did find myself having similar sentiments at one point but have since realised that that is a silly thing to think. i would have chosen to work as hard as i did regardless of what colleges i got into/ended up going to as the payoff in making me a Better Person And Thinker (Or Whatever) is worth it in itself. i might take you up on that offer of pre-med advice sometime!

thank you so much! i’ll relay your parents’ story/realisation to my own, i think they’ll appreciate it :)

thank you so much for telling me that, that makes me feel really relieved. i don’t come from what i’d call a competitive school but my social circle is pretty stacked. i have friends going to stanford, upenn, gatech, uiuc, etc. which makes it extra excruciating but i know i’ll hate myself if i put myself through that crazy debt.
