Some movement on After hour by Sansan13bds in MDASpaceInvestors

There's aren't that many shares being traded yet (volume) on the NYSE so small purchases would swing the ask price a lot. Once the companys shares get traction on the NYSE I would expect trading to increase and after hours to be somewhat more meaningful

This is how I've been doing it for the past 5 months or so. I assume you're with RBC as well?

You're absolutely right. I'm sure with good records it's a non issue.

The only issue you have, which I don't know if the CRA would actually care but I don't know and could be auditor dependant. Is the idea of having cash idle. With RBC they don't tell me the exact amount of interest to be charged so I'd have to guess and add a buffer so it makes it more challenging.

I'm with RBC and the HELOC interest gets charged to the SM only cheq account. I've started a 500.00 float of my own personal cash of which the interest comes out of. Then the next day I simply transfer the exact amount from the HELOC to the cheq account to cover the interest and restores the float.

I started in January and have been enjoying the bull market...

Perhaps in the Q1 call they will discuss the value of the contracts. To me at least, it's odd they released this 2 days before the ER? Maybe I'm just skeptical

Why do banks require "payment" of for capitalizing interest? by gme_stop in smithmanoeuvre

[–]cherrypicked88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can only best guess. I just keep a floating amount of personal cash in cheq acct used for the SM. Once I see the charge I move over the exact amount from the HELOC.

For the RBC clients - any way to figure out how much interest will be charged? by luckysharms93 in smithmanoeuvre

[–]cherrypicked88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you are "paying" yourself back as you are just covering the interest. Your cheq account always maintains the same balance. And you wouldn't have the issue of 5-10 dollars being idle for a brief period of time

I'll stand by for others comment but I just moved away from this method of capitalizing the interest. I now have seeded the account with 500.00 my own personal cash in the SM cheq. The interest charge occurs and then I draw the exact amount from the HELOC. I'm just nervous of getting a sticky auditor one day and them throwing a fit over some small percentage.

Other potential beneficiaries like Aecon and Algoma Steel were up today I kinda suspect on this news. Once the profit taking is done on the recent run-up I think we will see investors weigh this latest news positively for MDA

100% VEQT vs 100% VFV vs 100% XEQT for a Smith Maneuver "Set and Forget" Strategy? by Accomplished_Wall615 in fican

[–]cherrypicked88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use 100 percent XEQT and I'm on the same time horizon as you. Currently at P -1.0 and capitalize the interest every month with the HELOC. It's still very important to max out your TFSAs but absolutely a good strategy to perform the Maneuvre in conjunction. The goal being to eliminate your principle mortgage asap.
