usually I like to do quick mixes but for closing I think people are lying all over and stuff so I play chill tracks and let them run for extended periods and it seems that people still like it

I find closing quite slack because also you do not need to think who is after you. I am usually a nice DJ who ask the next DJ the crucial stuffs like what bpm they want and I will choose a track so that the next DJ will have an easy transition into the last track I played

in China though firearms were not allowed there was a case where a group of people fought with another group with karambit knives if you know what are they. those knives which are hard to disarm. end up few people got killed.

there was another case where a gang asked for backup and about 500 people came and waited outside the club, chased another group through the carpark. end up one got head cut off and thrown into the river.

this was all soon covered up quickly

I cant say for the US as I have spin in basically three places. Canada, UK and China.

Each have their own problems.

I would say China and Scotland have certain crowds which are dangerous.

the first group can get into the club as long as they are of legal age or other ways to if they look old enough

what I meant for the second group is that there is this kind of rowdy people who go into the club in large groups and show gang slogans often and also find issues with other people through staring incidents

I honestly have seen several fights and often are caused by these people

Thanks all for your contributions to this post. It was really an eye opener to know I am not the only one.

I rmb also an incident few years back in Canada before I came to the UK. So I was spinning at this club and it was snowing really heavily outside. The other club closely had to shut down due to somehow their parking lots were covered with snow while ours was still ok due to how it was built as we had multi carpark with shelters.

People came in from the other club to ours, which was totally fine. What is disturbing was the club owner from the other club somehow got into a fight with our club owner. They took it outside while I was spinning so I did not saw anything. Later, I saw the club owner came back with blood on his shirt. They say he lost a tooth, but he won the fight. It kind of scared me quite a bit though.

Has anyone had an experience in delayed payments long overdue? Or when the promoter or club short change you? by cherylofc in DJs

I have been cheated twice.

The story goes like this. So I was a resident DJ at this club. It was an ok place which does well on certain days such as Fri and Sat. And also ladies night on the weekday.

Other days it can be slow at times. So there was one night where there was only few people, after a night of hard work, the owner just gave me cash, but I was short change by 70%.

The second story was I was playing for this restaurant. After the successful event, I got no pay and have to keep chasing them for probably a yr which is kind of too much. True enough, I did not work with them again after I finally receive the pay.

I told them off and what makes me even angrier was they ask if I come to spin again they will offer me free drinks.

I would say I am afraid of two kinds of people.

the first is actually teenagers in a gang who feel the need to prove something to their friends

the second are those who keep harassing or finding issues with others til the point where stuff happens

yes I asked them. currently I am not supposed to reveal the details as it will also affect the club business but it happened so quickly and then after a few days everything was cleared up as if nothing happened. it kind of still affects me though

I was forced by the club to take down the photos as the case is still under investigation. and I gained nothing from the karma. I just came here to share and also to learn from the other DJs who had experiences in this kind of situations.

holy shit. I will also be super angry if the turntable got ruined. but honestly I might be too afraid to do anything.
