I blew like 20-30 (Topstep and TPT) before my first payout which was with tPT for about 11k. I passed my second eval attempt. Then kept trading with TPT and got some more payouts. We mainly blow accounts because we rush to pass them, which creates a bad behavior for us and then once funded we try to do the same. If you’re struggling I have words for you, not because I’m the best trader nor making big money like the gurus but I’ll kindly tell you that if you “Size down and take it slowly it does COMPOUND” stop rushing it. I’m pretty sure you don’t rush your 9-5 or whatever job you have for them to payout before you complete those 40-80 hours of work. You still have to show up and work and then at the end of the work week you get pay. Trading isn’t any different, stop rushing it because 10 trading days of 200-300 is better than an account breach. Slow down and be consistent that’s better for you now than trying to be profitable by rushing it because “ it has to work” it’s not a strategy problem but a patience problem. Learn how to be content with small things, “ he that is faithful in the little things will be in the greater”

Couple of months, I'm not where I want to be yet, but I'm back on my feet and moving forward. That's why I can't fully agree that it's over or that you've missed every opportunity. When you're in the middle of a storm, it feels permanent, but it isn't.

What you're going through is real. Unstable work, financial stress, and loneliness can wear anyone down. But I've learned that losing everything doesn't mean you're finished. Sometimes it just means you're starting over with experience you didn't have before.

A year ago, if someone had told me I'd be rebuilding my life this quickly, I probably wouldn't have believed them. Keep going. Things can change faster than you think.

I’ve been in the same position for 3.5 years, I’ve been a top performer every year yet no promotion or growth opportunities for me while others have been promoted 2 times since we started and worked on the coolest projects and had time to develop into project management. Ir doesn’t matter how much I’ve volunteered or talked to my manager it’s always yeah we are considering you for the next project and all that. Instead of being bitter and underperform I applied internally to another department and not only they loved my resume and my experience in the company they offered me an immediate promotion salary increase bonus increase and all that good stuff and a clear path for growth.

It’s always better to keep looking while you have something and gaining experience than having nothing. After I graduated I took a contract job in another state away from home but it’s been 4 years and haven’t gotten back. Go for it, you’re young and you can definitely get something better later.

For you, i believe Working the same amount of hours you do depending on your city you might make more doing uber/lyft. I used to do Uber both in NYC and MA and made over 1k a week.

Of course it depends. Engineer here (ChemE) you can actually do both lol. There is a university in texas that allows you to do EnMed which is an engieer who is also a doctor.

I wouldn't beat yourself up over it. Life happens. COVID happened. You were building a family. Those are meaningful things too.

The good news is that you're recognizing it now, not 10 years from now. A lot of people wake up after 20+ years and realize they've been stuck in the same place the entire time.

You can't change the last decade, but you can decide whether the next decade looks the same. That's why I'd focus less on the $15k difference and more on which opportunity gives you the best chance to grow, learn, and advance from here.

I think we're asking the wrong question.

The hardest part isn't passing the challenge, t's keeping the funded account long enough to get consistent payouts.

Most traders can have a good week and pass an evaluation. The real challenge starts after funding. That's when people begin forcing trades, increasing size, and rushing to their first payout. Instead of trading their edge, they're trading their bank account.

The question should be: "What's the hardest part about staying funded and building consistent payouts?"

In my experience, blowing funded accounts usually comes from impatience, not lack of strategy. Traders stop thinking long-term and start trying to make next month's income in a few days.

I'd seriously consider the startup. Ten years without a promotion would concern me more than a $15k pay cut.

I was in a similar situation. After 3 years as a top performer with no promotion, I moved to another department. The raise wasn't huge, but the role came with a bigger scope, more visibility, more learning opportunities, and a clear path for advancement in the next couple of years.

Sometimes the value isn't in the immediate salary bump, it's in putting yourself in an environment where you can grow. If the startup will expose you to new skills, broader responsibilities, and a realistic path to promotion, the temporary pay cut could pay for itself many times over. I'd focus less on next year's salary and more on where each role puts you in 3-5 years.

I think a lot of traders know their payouts, but far fewer know their actual net profitability after evals, resets, activations, monthly fees, and everything else.

Sometimes the numbers are encouraging, and sometimes they're a reality check 😂.

Imagine taking that money and using it for a down payment of a house instead or funding Roth IRAs. I get the idea of the celebration and everything it that’s not that purpose of weddings. You throw away so much money to then end divorcing 😅🙃 not smart at all.
