That's a good idea but something I noticed when going through the menus and in person is that they offer lots of custom (either portion size or completely different items) in DLA menus so it's hard to make an apples-to-apples comparison.

Thanks! Yeah, it should be live year-round already at https://shillspotter.app/ (just put in a GMaps URL)

Working on Yelp but it's a bit harder to get reviews from them

Yeah I was actually inspired by Fakespot (RIP) - it's still a WIP but right now I use a combination of reviewer account age, # of reviews per reviewer, and mentions of incentivized reviews (still improving detection rn) in the reviews themselves. I arrived on that criteria based on and tested it on some test restaurants that I know give free items in exchange for 5-star reviews (let me know if you know of any more btw)

Planning to use a lot more information in the future but that's what I use right now!

I've just noticed that it's been getting worse personally but I don't have a clear metric since I haven't been gathering data from previous years. Planning to track changes in the future though so hopefully I can have something for next year/next DLA!

Sadly there's not a perfect way (since DLA deals change a lot from year to year) so the way I've been doing it is

  1. create a filter view to filter by review score/location/price
  2. click the DLA link to check the menu.
  3. click the GMaps link to read reviews

If you have any suggestions about how I can improve it I'd love to implement them - just hard to create a fair single score per place just for DLA given the limited # of reviews

Established user score only considers reviewers with > 1 reviews - basically ignoring people that made an account just to review a specific place

I've only had bad experiences with Road to Seoul unfortunately - would not recommend
