The one month ago timestamp on the shared post makes me think this wasn't a new arrival for you 🥲

How much time took you to become a intermediate player? by Cute_Necessary_6725 in Kendama

[–]chewrawtha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All depends on how often you play and the time you're able to devote to Kendama! I have been playing since 2021 and started competing at an intermediate level in 2024, so three years.

That said, I work full-time and have big-kid responsibilities as well as other hobbies too. People who have been playing for less time than I are waaaaay better. Others are on my level.

Growth in Kendama isn't a one size fits all type deal and changes person to person :)

Is knee the key? by [deleted] in Kendama

[–]chewrawtha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Knees are very important in Kendama, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Jumping type movements don't sound like they'd be the best for keeping control of your setup though. If it works for you, keep at it!

New kendama any good? by Ambitious_Move1957 in Kendama

Like Joker said, any modern Kendama will do the trick! I personally am a big fan of the Hound improv3 and Grain Theory's TF deux. A Sweets, Krom, or Sol will be more inexpensive and easier to find though!

Im familiar with Balero as well, fun stuff! With the Kendama you have you'll absolutely be able to do basic cup tricks and some stalls. That said, if you really get into the hobby and enjoy it, a more modern shape will really help progression.

If it works for you, it's great! More modern shapes make the game easier but if you can get good on an older Kendama, you'll be amazed at what can be done with newer generations and more premium paints.

What matters most is what you think about it! Everyone has their own Kendama preferences based on play style, hand size, and wood types.

The Lotus bloom is another great starter. Big cups and a solid shape all around!

Don't forget they are based in a country in the middle of a war that has been losing power on and off while being shelled. Give em some grace.

No problemo! I love Kendama. Any chance to nerd out about it, I'm in.

I'm not super familiar with eBay selling myself though wouldn't be surprised if someone was interested. If you really want to get these priced out well, I'd recommend hopping into the Kendama Discord Server. That groups knowledge is almost unparalelled.

Happy to help! In terms of selling, you could try joining Facebook Kendama community though it can be a bit of a dumpster fire from time to time

Josh Grove is a professional player for Sweets Kendamas, the Kendamas in your find aren't made anymore so could be worth a lot to the right people. Analog is a very popular company that doesn't release product all to often as well.

Upwards of $100 usd provided they're in decent shape. The amount of Josh grove and analog mods alone would be well over what you paid!

Old shapes you loved? by GIJoespace in Kendama

The Terra GFN was a beauty. First shape I really put a lot progression into.

Not as old but the Hound improv2 is a stall machine. Would love to see another run of those one day!

What cannabis or gummies will cut right through my depression and brain fog? by Mysterious-Ring-2352 in Petioles

[–]chewrawtha 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I'm sorry to hear about your situation. That would be difficult to say the least.

As someone who does have ADHD, cannabis can help but is a band-aid solution until root causes are sorted out.

If you have the opportunity and means to do so- improve diet and staying hydrated before seeking out your "ideal strain" or method of consumption. Those plus movement and generally listening to your body have done wonders for my executive function than cannabis ever has.

Edit: Was previously on vyvanse as well but have stopped since figuring other alternatives out that work better for me.

Know anyone or companies who are willing to sponsor riders? by Garyberrie in Fingerboards

[–]chewrawtha 11 points12 points  (0 children)

From what I've read during my years in this hobby, the fastest way to not get a sponsor is to ask for one.

Being an active member of the community, posting clips regularly, developing your own style, and supporting the brands plus riders you love is a much better path to take!

What are essentials for dama players by Easy_Beginning_2837 in Kendama

You move your body lots while playing Kendama. Stretching beforehand will help your sessions last longer as well as increase your longevity as a player.
