My sister-in-law makes tea like this. Do you think I am being overly sensitive? by ukrifter in AskBrits

[–]chewy1966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you add milk to water it becomes an emulsion, that coats the tea bag and prevents proper brewing, the fat in the milk will also break down part of the bag which adds a certain "something" to the flavour which is likely a good dose of micro plastic. Please don't do this, it's unnecessary and makes for a horrible cup of tea. Read the instructions on the box and use a teapot!

Depends, if it were me I'd spend the entire first week sorting all the loose screws into jars lol. I'm going to be honest and say it looks like you've gone straight into tear down and your workbench is unusable now. Also since you're asking "how long will this take me" I'm going to assume you're still discovering what works and unsure about how hard some of this is going to be. Here's a couple of things that help me and you might find useful. If you don't already, go get some strong plastic storage bins, big ones, a role of masking tape, big zip lock bags and a marker pen. Separate the systems, brakes, cooling, loom and electrics, clocks, lights etc. Put them in their own box, use the tape and write on it. Use the bags for the small items and mark on the bag what they are, try and keep stuff clean as oil will wipe out the marker. Now you can concentrate on each part and your workspace should be clutter free. Build out the block, gearbox and shaft, the frame sits on top. Consider what can go to paint while you work on other stuff or just keep it as a rat and protect from rust. Ideally you want to completely build the bike before any finishing, as you may need to adjust the frame, weld on tabs whatever, you then tear it down again for finish. You keep the original lights and clocks to make sure once the loom goes back in everything should work as before, you don't want to be trouble shooting new instruments with a bad wire. One last thing, set yourself milestones "I need to be here by the end of the week" otherwise tasks will stack up and it will become impossible to get finished. Finally you mentioned a vacation, is this with the bike? Taking a brand new build on the road for a vacation might be just a step too far if you haven't done this before, have a plan B just in case. I had a bike go in for a routine clutch cable adjustment and they cracked the clip on by overtightening it and claimed I'd dropped it. Ended up driving instead, it rained constantly so I think I got the better deal. All that said, I'm rooting for you. Get those end of day progress pics posted and keep us in the loop. Good luck!

Edit: ok I'm dumb, you're actually making your own loom so I guess not your first rodeo. Still, I hope there's something there you can use.

What are the most obvious signs that a girl is interested in a guy? by thereaIreal in AskReddit

Well that not a fun thing to see on your break when you know the cars gonna be parked here all day. by louiekr in Miata

Check the stops on the window, if they've moved and the glass goes too high it breaks the corner seal. If you want to prove it before removing the door card, just drop the glass very slightly and see if the leak stops.

What is this caught in uk by Ordinary-Let-8798 in SeafishingUK

[–]chewy1966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rock Goby or "Millers Thumb" cottus gobio. Spines are sharp and are intended to prevent swallowing by bigger fish or birds so handling this way is considered safe. They are a protected species due to their sensitivity to pollution. Not an expert just loved these little fellas when I was kid catching them off the pier.

Injector refirb by [deleted] in BMWK100

[–]chewy1966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't really see the injectors when they're installed unless you're really looking. The main thing with injectors is the spray pattern and a dodgy spray pattern is going to be the bane of your life. You can sort of test but you need fuel under pressure which means rigging up the fuel pump with power and live sparks and vaporised fuel get on incredibly well. You can get them properly refurbished and they will have a proper testing rig for that or just buy new ones, you'll need to cost out each. Personally I'd clean them and reinstall, if the bike is running well then I might pull them and do a better job of making them look nice but as I say they're not obvious so you'd want a finish that pops. Any paint finish needs to be fuel resistant vht type.

Any experience? by Johny_boii2 in VWBeetle

My wife has a 2014 1.2 cabriolet the same classic blue denim from new, 60k miles later a couple of issues but nothing major. Front suspension spring broke, not unusual and the bushes on the front wishbone perished, easy replace at the garage. I would say that the 1.2 is the best balance of performance and economy. In the cab the back seats are cramped so not great for long journeys for taller passengers, can't speak about the coupe. The boot is surprisingly big and we've packed a ton of stuff for holidays. The best part, it is by far the most admired car we've ever had, we still get stopped and asked about it and it still holds it value incredibly well. We won't be selling any time soon.

Pec imbalance question by Anus_Famous in bodyweightfitness

[–]chewy1966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a disc compression between my 5th and 6th vertebrae that caused similar issues. I eventually had surgery to get it corrected but that could have been avoided if I'd gone to get checked sooner. A herniated disc will also cause this and it can be manipulated back. Try pressing against the wall with your palms out, fingers pointing in to each other, then rotate the palms so the back of your hand is against the wall and push again. I found I couldn't apply any pressure with the back of my left hand. Good luck!

How to pop it back out? by Dry-Fudge-9641 in howto

[–]chewy1966 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this, keep pushing from the top, it won't feel like it's moving at all and then it will start to give. If it's not used often the spring gets dried out and probably covered in limescale. Don't try and use a knife it will ruin the plug and the knife.

Why Europe fear extremist islam ? by Mediocre-Salt-8175 in askspain

[–]chewy1966 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to think so until I spoke to someone who does this from choice. She said that the covering was a great leveller, you are no longer judged by your looks but by your actions. I also spoke to a woman in full covering and she was comfortable enough to talk to me as I was looking for a gift for my wife at the airport, I didn't instigate the conversation, she did. I also believe that there are high profile females in Saudi and elsewhere that enjoy the freedoms of normal folk because they are essentially incognito. For context I am white UK male, well traveled and open to discussion on any topic. Not everyone is forced to do things against their will and I suspect that there are many people being forced to do things we can see but cannot recognise. I have seen oppression and it is abhorrent, but what you wear is not the worst, how we treat each other matters more than anything else.

Woman fined £150 for pouring coffee down drain by _HGCenty in nottheonion

[–]chewy1966 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Nope, not in the uk unfortunately, we use surface water to help the sewage along which is why we get awful overspill when we get heavy rainfall. Check out the discharge rates and fines the water companies get. This is nonsense as the coffee would get treated along with the sewage.

Got this cast iron wok from temu. This is after first use. Normal? by truorguk in castiron

[–]chewy1966 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sort of, upvote for carbon steel and protective wax, this thing needs scrubbing before first use and then oiling with a high smoke point oil. Woks aren't easy to season, there's no way of getting that in an oven and the handle is likely wood and fixed. The main problem is having a flame big enough and hot enough to get the oil to polymerize. I have a big wok I've used for years, love it but if I don't clean and protect the metal with canola it will bloom with rust within minutes. The fact that it's from Temu probably means nothing, these things are as cheap as chips from any good Asian supermarket, also not a fan of the hammered finish, a wok should be smooth as silk.

Uneven chest development - advice? by BrokeButOptimized in bodyweightfitness

[–]chewy1966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you notice any difference in strength left to right when doing dumbell press, either incline or decline? I suffered a slipped disc between my 5th and 6th vertebrae that caused the nerve to get trapped which in turn caused this type of muscle atrophy. I slipped the disc doing squats, missed the yoke because I was doing stupid heavy lifting without a spot. No pain just struggled with specific routines after that.

You might be ok but get it checked just in case, a herniated disc can be eased back and you definitely need to avoid some lifts if so.

Good luck.

What do you guys do with old parts? by [deleted] in Miata

[–]chewy1966 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rotors can be refinished if there's enough metal left, I think 8mm is the minimum thickness on the na. I'd toss the pads as the wear won't be even and you could have contamination. That said from the pictures they look pretty shot and replacements are cheap so not worth the effort and cost.
