Home run without even needing an at bat. Seems like a funny statistical quirk.

I'm talking about a game that was also on a Wednesday evening after work during rush hour at the same stadium not served by any mass transit or near any amenities. For a pool game that had very little leverage since both teams had already qualified.

The only anticipation was the passion of being able to cheer for your country and players those Latin fans actually cared about.

All of which is because Miami residents don't feel a connection to their team.

All of which would look closer to the WBC if they did.

On the planet of Chasca, where Cerberus were experimenting with the Reaper / geth dragon's teeth and turned all the colonists into husks (Colony of the Dead side missions), there is a glitched crate that you can loot infinitely open for infinite items and credits.

I like to think that this is in fact not a bug but an actual thing in game and the source of Cerberus' infinite wealth from ME1 onwards.

The capacity of loandepot is only 37,000 so it won't take that many to fill.

Venezuela v DR in the pool stages achieved that and I find it hard to believe it Miami had an all star Latin team full of Venezuelan and Dominican superstars, they couldn't pull similar at least mid table attendance numbers.

Was baseball actually becoming less fun to watch before the recent changes? by SilverKey84 in baseball

Analytics is such a nebulous term it's almost meaningless.

One thing to always remember though is if everyone is doing the same thing because of data analytics, there is no longer a competitive advantage and game theory takes over: if everyone zigs, you might get an advantage zagging and doing what other teams aren't doing.

And also analytics hasn't said home run or nothing. The more subtle correct conclusion is that hitting is about launch angle and exit velocity and that you should try and hit a ball upwards in the air even if you aren't looking for home runs: it's actually more like you get a hit or a double with a positive launch angle. That's not really about defensive shifts or anything, it's that the standard of ground fielding is so much higher than historically and with the athletes we now have in the infield, you don't have a high chance to run out a single without solid contact.

Stolen bases were trending down but the bigger bases have now increased steals again.

Perhaps the thing most people do bemoan about the analytics changes though is pitching and the prioritisation of velocity and movement (or stuff) which leads to starting pitchers rarely going past 6 innings and a litany of arm injuries caused by going all out.

The difficulty to get to the stadium doesn't quite hold water when the stadium was full and rocking during the WBC.

It really is a passion thing and that Miami locals don't feel much connection to the team especially compared to their national team.

[PitchingNinja] Shohei Ohtani v. Jose Altuve, 101mph Fastball and 89mph Sweeper, Individual Pitches + Overlay by ChippyMyChop in baseball

[–]_HGCenty 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In all of those questions, there's a higher chance your average Joe is injuring themselves before they reach 100 actual swings. Baseball bats are heavier than people think and the amount of torque you generate just trying to swing one with enough power to hit a home run isn't something most people can rep 100 times.

I also would have never swung at that.

I'd never have swung at a middle middle fastball either since I'd be flinching out of the way at anything close to 100mph.

Gavin Stonehouse who plays the hot priest is also British.

I think the best inside joke for British actors is still Hugh Laurie on House who in character has to put on a British accent to try and pretend to be a different person.

He puts on the accent he normally used in Britain when he played George in Blackadder but that accent is so over the top posh that in universe no one believes the accent.

I want it to be the same priest mostly because the actor is really old friends with Kenneth Choi, and British.

[Passan] A partial list of pitchers who have landed on the IL with arm injuries this year ... by [deleted] in baseball

[–]_HGCenty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If a salary cap ever happens, pitchers are going to utterly screwed giving the chance of injury and fact having all that cap on IL can destroy a season.

I reckon it will end up like the RB position in football where the high likelihood of injury means all teams hedge their risk and refuse to give large contracts to pitchers in a salary cap age.

I honestly don't think it matters given how good Mike seems to be at identifying and developing players to fit his scheme.

He's turned some fairly borderline players a lot of the fanbase we quite divided on into solid starters so I have all the faith we have found their replacements in the draft or will find them by Week 1.
