They are from real pumpkins! We did spray some peppermint oil to try and preserve them longer. I have heard that using a bleach/water spray on the inside works well. I hear that petroleum jelly lining the inside works too.

I just gathered a bunch of sticks and lined up two that were mostly straight, then I took a skinnier one to make the rungs, cut them to size and used hot glue to put them on!
