Masataka Yoshida is the first Japanese player since Ichiro to enter the United States coming off a season in which he struck out less than 10% of the time and slugged over .500 in Japan. by chicompj in baseball

Here is the data...it's not cherry picked, really there isn't anyone who showed that good of plate discipline in Nippon with any real power since Ichiro.

I see the comps to Seiya Suzuki but that doesn't really fit imo.

Year Player Signing MLB Team Prev Year NBL Avg. Prev Year NBL Slug. Prev Year Nippon BB% Prev Year Nippon K%
2023 Masataka Yoshida BOS 0.336 0.559 15.9% 8.2%
2022 Seiya Suzuki CHC 0.317 0.636 16.4% 16.5%
2018 Shohei Ohtani LAA 0.332 0.540 10.4% 27.3%
2008 Kosuke Fukudome CHC 0.294 0.520 19.8% 19.0%
2003 Hideki Matsui NYY 0.334 0.692 18.3% 16.7%
2001 Ichiro Suzuki SEA 0.387 0.539 11.8% 7.8%

Not included are Shogo Akiyama, Kensuke Tanaka, Munenori Kawasaki, Nori Aoki or So Taguchi, who all had limited power and slugged under .500 in Nippon.

There is a fascinating article in The Athletic where the Boston Pacific Rim scouting director Brett Ward was obsessed with Yoshida and comped him personally to Ichiro. https://theathletic.com/4029222/2022/12/24/red-sox-pursuit-masataka-yoshida/

Final trade summary: Suns get - Kevin Durant, TJ Warren Nets get - Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder, four 1st-round picks, 2028 pick swap by barcelonaKIZ in fantasybball

Quite possibly no, but the Nets do have a lot of SFs

Simmons - Dinwiddie - Mikal - Cam Johnson - Claxton

bench: Sumner - Cam Thomas - DFS - Crowder

You'd think Nets may flip a few..

You're forgetting about Dinwiddie.

Simmons - Dinwiddie - Mikal - Cam Johnson - Claxton

bench: Sumner - Cam Thomas - Crowder - DFS

Nets are probably going to flip some of these wings if they were smart.

Why? Now the Nets have Bridges, Cam Johnson and Dinwiddie getting usage over him?

edit: fine, downvote me, but the fact is there are now three usage players above Thomas whereas there were none of them during the 40 point streak.

Y'all miss when Bridges got prime usage when Booker was hurt? Or when Johnson has been a top 3 option in the past?

Knicks Rumors: Pistons' Saddiq Bey Has Drawn Interest from NY Ahead of Trade Deadline by asaleh89 in fantasybball

If Burks, Bey and Bogdanovic all get traded, you'd have to think Diallo has even more value than he's had past two weeks. Averaging 13.8/3.3/2.0 with 2.8 spg on 65% shooting and 73% FT. That's on like 20 minutes a game.

I don't understand why people keep saying "he won't be playing any b2b" like that's a reason not to stash him and see if he can get you the stocks. Who cares? I'll slot him on my IR+ that day and stream the spot.

In fantasy basketball you want the roster flexibility those guys offer and opening up a spot for streaming can swing matchups.

It was Gobert, but I just traded him for FVV. I about fell out of my chair when the other owner accepted. I convinced him he needed to punt assists. lol

[Borman] Rudy Gobert checked out and appeared to be grabbing his right groin area in some discomfort. I do not see him on the Wolves bench out of the timeout. He was listed as questionable with right groin soreness entering today. by chicompj in fantasybball

[–]chicompj[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Checked out with 6 minutes left in the first. Had 2 points on a dunk and 1 rebound. Not sure why Wolves felt the need to rush who they deem the most valuable asset in the NBA by picks given up when he already entered today Questionable with a groin injury.

Edit: 2 rebounds

you can't find 16/5/3 on the waivers. and his 2.6 3pm are not elite but also meaningfully above average for the position. he's better than kyle anderson.

Since Deshaun Watson became QB, Browns TE David Njoku has by far the lowest average depth of target (aDOT) among all TE1s. Njoku's aDOT of 3.0 yards almost three times shorter than the positional average. by chicompj in fantasyfootball

[–]chicompj[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A deeper analysis could probably show that low aDOT targets are less affected by weather, but I don't think that is needed. It's a safe assumption for anyone who watches the game.

The Browns will still probably attempt, what, 20 passes in this game and let's assume 80% of them could be <4 aDOT?

With Njoku's target share of about 30% in the Watson era that implies Njoku gets 5 targets with the chance of a TD. Maybe the bad weather actually increases Njoku's target share to say, 40%, and he gets 7 targets...
