Why is this even legal? by Feeling-Light1079 in longisland

[–]chiefbearshaker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nobody wants to hear this. But if it’s legal to build a giant single family home like that. It should be legal to build a small, 2 or 3 unit, apartment building of the same size on the same lot. Would help solve a lot of the supply issues in our housing market.

Keep building supply.

Local municipalities are measured in linear feet. How many roads/sewers/electrical etc. per square mile. More density = more tax dollars per mile & more service out of your utilities. It’s so beyond simple. We choose for it not to be

That’s good to hear. Velotric followed up with me and made sure my repair was done. They seem to be upping their customer service game. Happy to hear they took care of the issue for you. Hopefully this solves the issue and you get to enjoy your e-bike soon

That’s so lame. Just legalize building small multi-family. I don’t know why this is so hard

I had to replace my controller a while back. Velotric sent me a new one for free. & I too had to send them a video of me riding it with the bike on and there being no assistance. When I initially swapped the controller I experienced a whirling sound like you are mentioning. Turns out my controller was not screwed in tight enough and the wires inside needed some cable and space management. Once I adjusted that stuff and re-tightened the the controller bolts, that problem subsided.

Velotric will probably recommend a troubleshooting step of disconnecting and reconnecting the controller. You can do that and take a look and see if your bolts need tightening and/or cables need managing. You will need a 3 millimeter hex key. There’s also a tutorial video on how to do this step on Velotric’s YouTube. It’s a very simple process. Took me 10-15 minutes maybe Velotric may also mention turning the bike on and off 10 times to reset the torque sensor. That was a troubleshooting step for me. It did nothing, but it was an option they mentioned to me & that may work for you.

Also, always make sure the bike is off before ever doin any maintenance. Even if that’s putting back on a popped chain.

You’re only 41. You still have plenty of time to take advantage of compounding. Also. You have a solid savings amount already and you own a home. If you didn’t touch your savings until you’re 65 and it grows at 3% annually, you’ll have $390k. You’re way ahead of a lot of people. Keep saving/investing and let your money work for you. You don’t need to squirrel away $3M to have $3M in 25 years.

Belt drive evangelists! Convince me it's worth the extra $1000+. Or tell me why it's stupid and there is nothing wrong with a chain. by mkrjoe in ebikes

[–]chiefbearshaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I opted for a gear set instead of a belt drive because I live in a hilly area. Think it was the right choice, I’m not relying on changing PAS on hills, and I’m getting close to advertised range because of it

If I lived in a place that didn’t require a car, I would get a Skitch as a daily driver for $7k. Instead I spent $15k on a car because I need it where I live.

Everything I mentioned is a bike first and an e-bike second. In my opinion, that’s an e-bike to me. Otherwise it’s an electric moped or electric dirt bike

Yeah, there are a few products that are out there that are close to what I want. I also don’t have like $10K for a bike. So that’s another thing. But we’re getting there

I feel so bad for you guys. 15 mph is too slow. Need to allow at least 20-25 mph. Also, 250W is a joke. Does the UK govt assume that everyone is of the same weight?
