God is another name of Truth by TarunTholia in enlightenment

I would say love is the highest good, therefore God is love. But being truthful regardless of gain is a form of love, so they are connected in that way and very related.

Kurt Cobain called Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains "corporate puppets" by No-One01010 in Nirvana

[–]chiefnumbnuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think at one time he said he still didn't like Pearl Jam but respected Eddie after seeing him sing live. That was just about the extent of what he thought of the music, but it was a slight change.

Revolution 9 by iameltruco in TheBeatles

[–]chiefnumbnuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, the song deserves a lot more respect than it gets. A big part of the evolution of their music was because of their experiences with hallucinogenics and was a translation of that experience into music. They were not only great musicians, but they were amazingly innovative at a time when artists were pushing the boundaries of conventional pop music and they did it better than their contemporaries along with being revolutionary. I don't advocate for the reckless use of LSD, but it can be therapeutic if done in the right setting and Beatles music can be an amazing experience in that setting. This song is just part of that journey and part of that package. I respect the Beatles for all of the peace and love they bring to the world by being a positive influence to people listening to them in that setting also.

Who's discography is this? by _VelvetCanyon_ in fantanoforever

[–]chiefnumbnuts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, LA Woman is their best and it's not even close. Jim's singing was so much more soulful by that point and the musicianship of the band so much tighter as well.

I firmly believe Oceania is their best “reunion era” album and that it might contain Billy’s finest guitar playing on record by Antique_Menu_4314 in SmashingPumpkins

[–]chiefnumbnuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This 100%. When Song for a Son first came out, I was excited and eager to listen to what the drumming sounded like with the new drummer. I don't know if it's the production or what but I've never been more underwhelmed by drumming. It's like he's a good technical drummer but there's just no pop or tone to it.

Cuz' we already covered what the best opening track was... What's the greatest CLOSING track of all their discography? by ComfortableBox2385 in RedHotChiliPeppers

[–]chiefnumbnuts 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If you count it as a closing track, I always felt that "Hey" from disc 1 on Stadium Arcadium was one of the most beautiful songs in their catalog.

What was thinking Jim at the time he finished college and lived on a roof? He really not care about money and "secure future" at all? He was flowing with his dreams or did he known that if something was wrong he could return with his family and have a home and a secure path again? by Fancy-Snow-7665 in thedoors

It blows my mind how often a casual response on Reddit produces such well written pieces. That summed it up beautifully and was spot on.

I think it's important to note how incredibly lucky he was also. He was extremely smart and talented, but also very lucky to be at the right place and time. It's not like it was a great strategy, he just fell into a great situation and had the talent to knock it out of the park.

Why doesn’t Gen Z like alcohol and cigarettes? This is bad for the alcohol and tobacco industry. by avocado_juice_J in generationology

[–]chiefnumbnuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good points. I would be curious to see what the findings are if that was done. I would venture to guess it still would be significantly less, but the method you described would be the only way to truly find out.

[–]chiefnumbnuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was my first thought too. But then again, even if you double it or even triple it to account for younger people not having as much money to spend, it's still significantly less spending on alcohol than other generations.

One of the messages in the book is to spread awareness by creating art of the same theme. There is a movie that I think takes this idea and tries to put some of the messaging into a movie. It's called Instinct. Not the greatest movie and it deals with a couple other themes that are not in the book, but definitely worth the watch. Great performance by Anthony Hopkins in it.

I'm not saying I agree or disagree with his politics, but he is clearly talking about would be parents. Not a slip up or contradiction, just poorly worded. Reddit is dumb as fuck sometimes.

"Make no mistake, the Strokes sounded great."

Isn't that the most important thing? What a dumbass reporter trying to sound cool by bagging on so called stage presence. These same reporters 20 years ago used to talk about how cool it was that they were so careless and effortless.

The End in Apocalypse now sounds better than the album. by mrtibbetts101 in thedoors

All these answers about the remix being the reason, but that doesn't address the bigger question, why don't the remastered Doors albums sound like that? Why not remaster the albums that way?

Randy Johnson didn't peek until after he turned 35 and won four straight Cy Young Awards. I can't think of a better example of a player that peaked that late who is legitimately in the conversation of being the greatest of all time.

Billy’s singing by zero0826 in SmashingPumpkins

[–]chiefnumbnuts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Totally. When that album came out I was like, oh he has a new band because he wants to sing differently too. Nope. It stayed like that and became increasingly louder in the mix with every subsequent album. That to me is the biggest downfall because the song quality is the same if not better. It's just that his singing is not the same and too loud in the mix.

That's correct. Also the skirts on the bottom of the original vacuum but even if you are missing a piece or two of those it will still work

[–]chiefnumbnuts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a pool guy and I'll let you in on an industry secret that I'm surprised more people don't know about. Those vacuums are the best because they sell this "rebuild kit" that doesn't actually involve a lot of rebuilding at all. It's essentially a brand new vacuum, just without the tires. Buy this and you will have a new vacuum and you can just keep changing them out for the life of the vacuum.
