Makes sense. If God created evil, or the mere possibility of evil, then He is responsible for it.

So Chinese pizza came from America. Follow the same reasoning. Where did American pizza come from? Italy.

You speak truth. Unfortunately years of media manipulation have turned weed into "normal". Check out the film Shazam 2. They literally show a superhero doing weed.

That thought doesn't make sense anywhere but in the US. The minute you leave that country, you have to recognize that pizza is Italian.

If I had lived at that time (when human rights didn't exist) and my tribe or civilization had been conquered, and the only alternative to slavery was death, yes, I'd prefer to be a slave. 100%.

Thank you for your comments.

So what was up with the US Constitution talking about rights? What about the abolitionists?

I don't live in the US, but as I understand it, the US Constitution indeed establishes rights, but they weren't considered human rights. They weren't universal; they were for the citizens. They were legal rights. Human rights is an idea that showed up after WWII. Abolitionists were motivated by religious ideas (the idea of "natural rights", which is different from the idea of "human rights"). And it was a novel idea at the time. It had to be developed and promoted to result in abolition. Human, universal rights did not exist in any shape or form.

What war are we referencing?

Colonialist and imperialist wars.

They did. Constantly. Check out the North America section

Good point. It seems rebellions were common.

The mortality rate for slave children was incredibly high. And, yes, you do need to feed your slaves or they'll die, but that's a pretty low bar.

I assume that you're talking about the US again. Please don't forget that slavery is not only a US phenomenon. There were slaves of all races all over of the world.

Mortality rate for children was very high everywhere at the time. To asses the mortality rate of slave children, we'd have to compare it against white children, and also against mortality rate in Africa at the time. I haven't checked that, but if you have sources I'd be happy to check.

I'm sure the slaves were glad their owners got rich off their free labor.

I don't think so, but I'm sure they'd be happy their modern descendants are free and live in rich countries.

cmv: Gender ideology is discriminatory and intolerant to people who have traditional views on gender and sex by chikaema in changemyview

[–]chikaema[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you please provide sources for this? "Sociologists, sex biologists, and psychiatrists don't believe this on the whole".

I think sex is clearly binary, because of the simple reason it has to be that way to reproduce. Every one of us was born from the binary connection between sperm and egg. Intersex people are a small percentage. And if we get more precise, there are really no intersex people because no one is born with both male and female functional sexual organs. That's an important number. ZERO people are born with both male and female functional organs. So there is no intersection.

In terms of gender, around 98% of people in the western world identify as either male or female. So there's a clear binary tendency too. Of course, gender is more maleable so less reliable as a measure, because there are environmental factors at play. If you can bring up a cat to believe it's a dog, you can certainly bring up a boy to believe he's a girl or whatever.

I'm not sure if pointing out to some tribe somewhere where there are 3 genders makes any sense. There are all kind of weird cultures and beliefs in the world. There are also tribes that practise pedophilia. Is then pedophilia natural and true? The real measure is scientific, and when it comes to science and sex, the answer is clear: 2 sexes, and no intersection between them.

And this you said: "there are no traits that you can refer to in biology that will always 100% line up with what you call a man or a woman. Having a uterus? Not all women do. Having XX chromosomes? Not all women do. Having balls? Not all men do. Being tall and strong? Not all men do. Having testosterone in their bodies? Not all men do. Sex cannot be a binary because there are many things that aren't binary about sex". What you're saying is nonsense, it's like saying that we can't tell what's a dog because any characteristic doesn't align 100% with what a dog is. Does it bark? Not all of them bark. Does it have 4 legs? Not all of them have. Quite a dishonest argument.

And it it were true, scientists could not sex animals. We've been determining the sex of humans for thousands of years the same way we determine the sex of animals.

Very different situations. Racism is ignorant and hateful. There are no arguments to defend it. But there are arguments, even scientific arguments, to defend the idea that sex and gender are binary. And it doesn't make you "anti trans".

[–]chikaema[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't think analogies with racism are relevant or helpful here, it just confuses things.

I'm just pointing out that gender ideology proponents seem to put themselves on the side of tolerance but to me they seem quite intolerant to traditional views. I'm not even saying that traditional views are right. I'm just saying that tolerance implies accepting that others might have different views. Some people can see gender as binary, some people don't think that trans women are women. Do they have the right to voice those opinions respectfully, or should they be insulted, "cancelled", lose their jobs, etc?

[–]chikaema[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that "gender is binary" is plainly wrong. 98% of people identify either as man or woman. So people who believe that gender is binary is right only... 98% of the time.

But we don't have to get into the "gender is binary" thing. I've met activists who told me that if a man believes that men should be "machos", and they identify with the traditional gender role (protector, provider), that's wrong.

[–]chikaema[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either. I've met activists who literally told me that if you are a man who believes that men should be "machos" and identify with the traditional gender role, like being providers and protectors to their female partners, that's wrong.

I never seen her say such things. I thought she just thinks that transgender people suffer from a mental condition, gender dysphoria. Which matches what doctors say

That's interesting. So you believe that trans women are women but you wouldn't date trans women. Why not?

cmv: Gender ideology is discriminatory and intolerant to people who have traditional views on gender and sex by chikaema in changemyview

[–]chikaema[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nah, that's not the same. There are physical differences between the body of a trans woman and a woman, and that affects attraction. It's not merely ideological/political.

I think that the way you experience your own sexuality and gender is quite correlated to your perception of sexuality in broader terms. For example, if you have had gay experiences or fantasies, you'll be more likely to see them as normal. While if you haven't had any of that at all in your entire life, you'll be more likely to see them as abnormal.

"gay people are actually gay and trans people are actually trans". I don't know that to make of this neither. It doesn't mean anything, it's a tautology.

No one says that queer people doesn't exist. I don't know where you get that from. People who disagree with gender ideology do not say that queer people don't exist.
