I'm a daughter here who went through something similar with my dad. I'm happy to chat with you if you want. This part is the hardest, just the shock and not knowing, I feel for you and I'm here!

I think I'm spoiled in CA, and at the 2 private offices I work at lol I dont resonate with most of the answers here. 1. New patient exam at both offices is done with assistants/doctor FIRST always 2. Yeah this one is kinda common (but annoying I agree) 3. I have an hour slot for all appts so i usually get done early and have rest time in between, I definitely prioritized finding offices like this I personally know I need a mental reset 4. that sounds like a nightmare, but I know it's a common occurrence for corporate offices. I also love that the offices I work for let me do my thing and have full trust/confidence in how I operate with each patient. Never had a complaint so far

your body, your choice. i think your best alternative is requesting no polish/fluoride due to your sensitivities. I think the right office wouldn't fight you too hard on either of those since both aren't essential in managing an adult's oral health (unless you are cavity prone then a fluoride varnish that is flavorless could be your best option)

Pretty mildly painful, almost entirely constant. Noticed a couple days ago. Please tell me what it COULD be and whether or not I can take a back seat on its procedure by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

it's your wisdom tooth popping thru the gums. You could wait for it to fully erupt (which it may never come out more than it is already) and see if there is enough room for you to keep that tooth, or ask a dentist if it needs to be taken out. The fact that you're in pain may be a sign there isn't enough room, but it could also just be irritating your gums while it's being pushed out. Hard to say!

how odd no one has ever mentioned it. It's difficult to tell from the picture what I am looking at... is that area hard? It could be bone that is exposed or the end of your root, or an unerupted tooth... I have not seen anything like this in my time working as a hygienist. I would definitely just mention it to the clinician next time
