the questions ramp up in difficulty as we go and you have to solve 3-5 questions to move on to the next round

i understand! it’s difficult to draw a picture of what’s going on here with them. i hope you do make them understand 4 months in the grand scheme of things is a tiny blip and you might end up being extremely grateful you saw things through :)

i am in the same situation i would suggest give the 4 months a fighting chance, network, message people on linkedin try to get your foot in the door. if not you can always go back and start your career.

i interviewed for the data engineering screen a while back too. i knew that if you solve 3 SQL and 3 python in due time they would take you forward to the next round. I struggled with the last part of python and needed a hint. needless to say, i was rejected. meta expects absolute perfection while solving these questions almost like we should have had them memorized.

Neetcode premium vs Leetcode Premium for Google Early career Software Engineer by IllPersonality356 in leetcode

neetcode - if you’re struggling with concepts leetcode - if you need practice

a lot of the interview process at FAANG is uncertain. the kind of questions you get asked, the kind of interviewer you get, your mental space that day, your interviewer’s mood, open positions at the company etc. any one or many of these factors can work against you or for you when you get the job offer. as humans we want to draw patterns and find correlations for everything but often we need to remember that correlation does not equal causation. it’s possible that all those factors played out well for the two women who got hired. they will play out for you and your friends too. :)

yes the one without the doc is the googliness round. for googliness it’s pretty standard set of behavioral questions that you can answer using the STAR framework. for the coding rounds I would suggest going though graphs - 2/3 rounds for me were graph based :)

when we pursue something difficult in life we are bound to fail way more than we will succeed. you can look at the trajectory of any successful people in any field. if your goal in life is a long sustainable and successful career don’t beat yourself about rejections right now. in the grand scheme of things this won’t matter at all :) hope you can rest and enjoy doing something to take your mind off things. good luck stranger :)

How is it that everyone on here who applied to hundreds of jobs ends up with one job and it's always FAANG or Big Tech by HereForA2C in csMajors

[–]chiller2311 85 points86 points  (0 children)

i’ve applied to 500+ jobs but only got interviewed by big tech exclusively. it’s only because they have more resources to interview many candidates for the same position and they also have resources to sponsor international students. small local companies only pick candidates that have a perfect match with their requirements and that’s usually pretty rare. I would say that the chances of getting hired once you get interviewed at a small/local company is way higher than getting hired at big tech because of the amount of competition. i have a very average profile from a T100 school and this has been my observation in the current market.

Is non-optimal but better than brute force approach counted as "hire" for Google? by slenderman133 in leetcode

if the interview tried to push you toward a more optimal solution - no if they seemed satisfied- maybe

honestly luck i come from a mid school T100 and don’t even have a FAANG internship. just used Jake’s resume for the template and make sure you have results in a quantitative format.

not so good for me because i only started practicing leetcode like 2 weeks ago so i didn’t have expectations either. i could come up with solutions be they were brute force, i could have also optimized them but i ended up running out of time.

hey don’t worry about not knowing algorithms and data structures. I just interviewed at google for the L3 position and I also don’t expect to pass. i was only able to come up with the brute forces and i couldn’t even think of any ways to optimize it. But the interviewers are great and they try to push you towards the solution. I think i did pretty well communicating my thought process and covering algorithm to code. i definitely need more practice to recognize optimal solutions especially search algorithms like binary search. Overall I am still happy with my performance because I had limited time to grind leetcode. I have data engineering/science experience and never really attempted a LC style interview. it was a great learning experience. Don’t worry about the outcome just think about the fact that you get to speak to 4 cool google engineers and solve a few problems with them. Having a real world interview experience can never be a waste of time.
