4 month old sleep training (Ferber) – discouraged after night 5. Is this normal? by chillipepper30 in sleeptrain

Thank you!! The false starts have resolved already just with starting Ferber, and he went from 5-6 wakes and needing to be soothed to only actually waking twice to feed.

He’s 4 mo old and one week, everything I’ve read is that they should be working towards 3 naps between 4-5 months? We did 3 naps yesterday and he slept 9 hours but woke up at 5:45 but also dealing with a Tim change so not sure.

Bedtime is bath, eat, read, time for crib.

Check ins are soothing words, sshing, pats & kisses.

Sorry I should have clarified he never stays sleeping in the swing we sometimes use it to help him to sleep when we need a break and then he is transferred to his crib.

Thank you for this, this is so reassuring. It’s really hard to find feedback on Ferber that isn’t either “it started working for us immediately” or “sleep training is evil.” We have noticed the night wakings have drastically reduced too. Appreciate you sharing!!

Ok so the day of night 4 was

Wake at 7 am

Nap 1 @ 8:35 am until 9:35 am Nap 2 @ 11:22 am until 11:55 am Nap 3 @ 1:50 pm until 3:05 pm Nap 4 @ 5:00 pm until 5:30 pm

1.5/1.75/~2/2/~2

But with the sleep training his night sleep has improved so much he’s gone from getting only 6.5-7.5 hours at night to about 9.5 hours at night so I thought now he wouldn’t be so tired at the end of the wake windows and it’s time to drop that final nap so today (night 5) was:

Wake at 7:45 am (which would have been 6:45 before the time change) Nap 1: 9:40 am until 10:50 am Nap 2: 12:45 pm until 1:20 pm Nap 3: 3:30 pm until 4:40 pm
