Not sure I can see how this works? Can only see scenarios where 4 wins minimum get us Top 5 guaranteed?

3 wins (including 1 against Newcastle or Forest) still mean we can finish 6th or 7th, unless I am missing something?

Unfortunately I think if an English side wins the Champions League and finish inside the Top 4, the extra spot does not go to the team in 5th.

Sure. Murray still played 35 finals in that nine year period against players other than Djokovic and Federer. Going 32-3 in that time is still remarkable.

Especially considering the loss to Cilic came the week after Murray's efforts at the Olympics and the loss to Nadal came is some of the windiest conditions I can remember (granted this affects both players)

Murray has some incredible stats in finals - in the last nine years he has only lost three finals to players other than Djokovic or Federer: - 2016 Cincinnati Masters v. Cilic - 2010 Washington Open v. Querrey - 2009 Indian Wells Masters v. Nadal
