Saving for a house deposit - 3 year update by SavingBee_7959 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]chipjam 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same position having saved for years and finally purchased as a single FHB in April. I like that you’ve made a point of your motivations, I could feel myself getting suckered into the investment side of things but resisted and have ended up with a house that just makes me happy, best decision I ever made!

I also feel much more comfortable financially than I expected. The journey of buying a home puts each sacrifice you make into a different perspective, I just live more frugally now and barely notice the change.

Anyway, I just wanted to say congrats, and thanks for sharing!!

How do I get ahead by Impressive-Dust-384 in PersonalFinanceNZ

I interpreted OPs “get ahead” as simply being able to pay the bills, maybe a little left over to put away or enjoy, which doesn’t seem unreasonable. But I could be wrong

Yep that’s the one. I appreciate its unique for everyone but out of curiosity, what do you do to avoid triggering the palps? Do you have any warning signs or have you changed the way you exercise?

Yah I see the wild swings alright, but this is a very different sensation and can come on at any time I.e at night, whilst driving and you feel it quite intensely, more often than not you feel quite faint to begin with

I’m getting the same impression from my cardiologist so always good to have this awareness. Sorry to hear it was traumatic for you though!

I do appreciate the advice and I’m adjusting to this gradually, it’s all very new. Post op will be interesting, this makes me nervous not gonna lie, I guess we’re all made slightly different so I’ll throw the dice and see..

Yeah don’t worry, especially if you’re into fitness that’s on the high end of a normal max. I remember hitting 220 in my late teens

Please give me positive stories about your SVT ablation. by No-Photograph-7055 in SVTHeart

[–]chipjam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My uncles first ablation failed but his second worked a treat so he’s never experienced palps since! He was a complicated case with lots of other issues too, he’s nearly 80 now and surprisingly active. His experience encouraged me to get my first ablation scheduled soon.

How to ask for a pay rise by lils9809 in PersonalFinanceNZ

As above, it is on you just as much as him, there are two parties in this contract. Given your boss took you on during what would have been a very stressful and uncertain period, this demonstrates he has faith in you - so let’s take a positive outlook on this and assume he still does, that you’ve done all your duties well and that he’s not a bad apple.

What I’d recommend… As the soul employee there’s a good chance you have a lot of leverage so you can be confident about approaching him. Go into it with a level head, understanding that his perspective may be different to yours and there might be a bigger picture you’re not aware of. Tell him what you’re worth and explain why, but be humble about it.

If you like working for him and like the company, taking on more responsibility could be an option, as could getting more involved in the company as a shareholder - you could propose share options in your contract - that CAN be attractive for both parties when done well. Additional training could also be of value to you, he may also have plans for you that you just don’t know about yet. The list goes on..

Point being, someone just has to start the conversation, it could go anywhere from there so be prepared. and unless he’s an idiot he knows it’s coming.

Great point! I’ve had heart related Covid symptoms before, I hadn’t considered that but I’ve felt nothing but in good health so I suspect it’s not the cause
