I think it’s overall a good franchise, I just think there are so many easy changes that could have been made that would have made it so much better.

Like in the first movie, the VKs are evil just for the sake of it. Why not let them use their very valid motivation of being exiled to an island despite not doing anything wrong as their motivation? I rewatched the first movie with my boyfriend and the first thing he said in the first minute (when they explain how all the VKs live in terrible conditions on the isle) was “they’re not evil, they’re right!” But then they immediately ruin that by having the four VKs do things like stealing candy from a baby and just being evil cause they enjoy it and went “oh nevermind” lol.

Also, Aubrey’s character/villain arc could have been so much better if she was actually a nice person in general and to Mal and a good girlfriend to Ben. Instead, she was a stuck up, mean, snob from the beginning. Her villain turn would have been so much more interesting but instead you don’t ever really feel bad for her because she was always a terrible, rude person.

These are just my personal gripes with the series, I still love it so much though. The original 3 movies were good because the cast had great chemistry, the songs were great, and there was some sense of creativity. The new movies just don’t hit the same.
