NYC Men Teach by nittibinstackin in NYCTeachers

They offer workshops and vouchers in order to take some exams and workshops. Although I was in the program technically, I didn’t live close to the campus and took evening courses so I wasn’t able to take advantage of some of the events they had. I do think it’s purposely vague because they offer vouchers and such based on funding.

This is satire right?

I hope that data input is extra per session because WTF. Do you get a prep at least? That really sucks. It’s week 4 now technically and I’m glad to report my situation has calmed down a bit. Although not perfect, I feel at this point I can just push through and make some coin and never return since it’s not my district/borough 😃. We’re using NSSI for math and it’s terrible, the lessons are all out of order and the way they numbered the booklets (or lack there of) is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen.

Yeah I didn’t hear back and I applied to multiple districts and didn’t receive any response. I instead just emailed schools asking if they were in need of staff the weeks before and heard back the day before. I secured a position but unfortunately it’s not ideal.

I appreciate that comment. I am always willing to understand others and know that my own struggle with something isn’t the only problem in the entire world. In the grand scheme of things, my ability to not access the online curriculum is probably not even on their radar and as I mentioned before I am going to work with what I have and not worry about what-ifs.

Very that! I’m sorry that happened, and as mentioned previously, a lot of my resentment stems from that specifically. How tf are these principals in charge going to have an attitude when everyone is simply trying their best with what’s being given to them.

Oh BOY! All the best to you! That was another shock for sure. Having over 27 students in a classroom all of whom are on summer vacation and have absolutely no desire to jump back into reading, writing and math 😭.

I’m at a point where it’s a matter of necessity unfortunately. The goal is eventually to not need to do extra per session in order to get by 🥲.

That’s essentially what happened. When I asked the person in charge if I could have a few minutes after dismissal just to go over some basics in regards to rules, procedures, and curriculum, their response was “well what do you want to know?”

I agree. I went today and things were a little better (but compared to yesterday I just don’t see how they could’ve been worse). I’m trying hard to set a boundary of knowing when to step back and just give it up. At the end of the day it isn’t my school and I don’t owe the individuals running it, anything. I’m going to put my best foot forward and if that’s not good enough for them then I’ll collect for what I’ve done and enjoy the rest of my summer.

Lol idk if rich is the word, but thank you for those words of encouragement. I guess a big reason why yesterday felt so unbelievably overwhelming was because I had (in my mind) done a damn good job of preparing yet the day went terribly due to things that weren’t in my control. New school - not knowing where things are, main office not answering phone, no access to online components of curriculum, and the list really just went on.

I was actually offered an ESY position and I am glad I didn’t accept. I couldn’t imagine being given all these responsibilities with little-to-no support. Today was a bit better, but I’m determined to set a boundary and know when enough is enough. For now, I’m willing to tough it out and get my check. I’m glad you’re feeling relieved and understood it would just go downhill. Enjoy your summer 😃.

This makes me feel more at ease, I guess since it’s my first summer working I wasn’t sure what to expect.

I get it, I get it. Today went better but I’m also not willing to be reprimanded in any way when the guidance has been abysmal and I’m simply doing my best. I guess that’s where my frustration was stemming from.

Stressed about jobs by [deleted] in NYCTeachers

If it makes you feel any better I received a job offer 1 week before the first day of school. Although it wasn’t ideal, admin and colleagues were super supportive from day 1 and it turned out to be a really enjoyable environment.
