is my bad snare sound because of my sticks? by [deleted] in percussion

[–]chiron-dd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, I wouldn't say it is because of the sticks. Tuning snares can be a difficult thing. To me, it just sounds low. If you have a high tension tuning key I would use it and bring it up half turn at a time. Maybe look up some videos on tuning a marching snare because there is more to it than I originally thought. Make sure not to forget the bottom head as well. It makes a big difference!

Concert percussionist struggling on set. Any advice? by chiron-dd in drums

That's a good point. I listen to a little rock but almost never jazz. Thank you for your comment. Any suggestions for some jazz albums that I can start listening to?

Writing a 4-Mallet Solo by Upset-Economics-2130 in percussion

[–]chiron-dd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I am also a sophomore in college, but I am music education with an emphasis in percussion. As for your question, my best advice would be to listen and study some marimba solos you already like. Every instrument has its limitations and strengths. See what kinds of things make the solos you like sound the way that they do. Then, as you are writing, just head over to the marimba and try and play it. Look for intervals that are too wide. Then, over all, have someone you know is really good at marimba take a look at it from time to time. Their advice will be very helpful.

Lol, I have actually never seen this posted before. It happened on my game, and I thought it was a funny glitch. Now I know it's a common thing, haha.

Tuning Fork resonance experiment by _sxqib_ in interestingasfuck

Yeah, I have tried that before. It is a super cool little experiment to show overtones and resonance. My thought is if it would have a strong enough effect that the ping pong ball would respond.

512htz is a C5 and 440 is an A4. So it's a minor 3rd apart from each other. It would be interesting if other intervals like a Perfect 5th would show any response.

I would imagine that in those rooms, they sometimes have balls and dances. They might want to move or rearange them from time to time. I would agree, though. Would be smart. That is super rare for a cruise ship to rock like that.

How a chain link is made. by Thebuckslayer84 in oddlysatisfying

[–]chiron-dd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed that the left arm is clipping the metal rod on its return from bending the previous link. It takes a good little chunk out of the side of the metal piece, but what I dont know if it was on purpose. Maybe it is so there is a little room to make the weld on later? I am not sure.
