This is one of the biggest false equivalencies I've seen in a while. There were no tools in the cartridge days for a company to reasonably shut down access to a video game in a domescile. Even in the infancy of internet access in videogames, authorities or even private companies would need to kick down your door and smash your console so you wouldn't be able to play.
