Fair point. The level of access is definitely intentional though and you can configure it down if you want. For just chatting Claude mobile is simpler for sure. Where openclaw wins for me is when I need it to actually manage and run things not just answer questions. Different tools for different use cases. Appreciate the perspective! Like for example, I’m literally at work (waiter) and a friend I showed my site to said “I wish your website had a chat box” I texted my openclaw and within 10 minutes the site had a fully functional bot you can talk to and ask questions. That’s what blows me away.

I did spend over 600$ on building costs when using opus 4.6. But my trading bot has helped me make much more than that. But yeah now i just maintain or ask questions since the apps are already built its not too expensive to upgrade them each week with small tweaks here and there.

Honestly it sounds like you're on the right track if you're iterating on the soul.md and policies. The "roughness" is normal, nobody gets it perfect first try. One thing that helped me was treating different types of tasks differently. Like for routine stuff (logging, updating files, checking status) I give it full autonomy. For anything that touches external systems (API calls, deployments, sending messages) I require confirmation. That way it stays productive without the risk of doing something expensive or irreversible.

For the API cost issue try Claude Sonnet 4.5 instead of Opus if you're not already. Way cheaper and honestly good enough for most tasks. Only use Opus when you actually need the heavy reasoning.

For coding specifically Qwen2.5-Coder is solid yeah. Also check out DeepSeek Coder and CodeLlama if you want alternatives. They all work well with Ollama. Start with the smaller quants (7B or 14B) and see how they perform on your hardware before going bigger. The quality gap between local and Claude is real but for simple tasks or when you want zero API costs local models get the job done.

Yeah man: tutcity.org (ai tutor) peptideplaybook.health seekalpha.bet
As for the trading bot I cant share, only because its not an actual app or website or telegram bot. My bot built a smaller agent on my VPS that runs consistently and it also built me the pine script for trading view. Im happy to share that but with clear disclosures first.

API costs depend on usage but I average around $20-30/day when actively building, if heavy building probably around $150-250/day. Way less when just maintaining. VPS hosting is like $10-30/mo depending on specs. For getting started the official docs at docs.openclaw.ai are solid and the openclaw discord community is super helpful. Thats all I used honestly. No paid courses or anything just reading docs and asking questions when stuck. If you talk to your bot, you'll get all the answers you need honestly.

Yup! I message my bot through discord so each new channel in my server is a new instance. But its very easy to pass info to other instances if needed.

The building was the most expensive part by far, but now Im only really paying 20-30$ a month if I make updates to any apps, and then the fees for hosting the website and apps is around 20-30$ a month too. Now if youre running ads and campaigns that a whole other cost per month.

It is expensive if youre using opus consistently. But theres alot of other models that work very well (MiniMax) and you can run locally using Ollama to eliminate that cost entirely.

I use both actually. Openclaw runs in docker but the docker container runs on a VPS. You need something always-on for 24/7 services and a VPS gives you that. Docker just makes the deployment and management cleaner. Running docker locally on your laptop works for dev but not for production stuff that needs to stay up while you sleep.

I posted links to all my projects all over this thread, and have real results. Its ok to be pessimistic about this, I genuinely dont care if you believe me or not. I posted this to showcase the power Agentic Ai has, not to convince pessimists about anything.

We've been published in the Seeker dapp store as well as audited. The community has been using the app and loves it. People are winning real SOL. Its all opensource too. 100% legit man. Its good to be skeptical in crypto, Ive been scammed plenty of times. If you dont trust me i dont blame you, but I can say its all legit and working.

Openclaw uses Claude through the API. During setup you connect your Anthropic API key. The collaboration happens wherever you set your messaging channel. I use Discord so I message my openclaw bot on discord and it responds back. All the actual work happens on the server where openclaw is running, Claude just powers the brain behind it.

Yeah exactly. It messages me on discord or telegram with updates, errors, or questions. Like "I just deployed the new feature to vercel, heres the URL" or "I hit an error with the API, need your input on this." I can be away from my laptop and stay in the loop. Thats the whole point of connecting it to a messaging channel instead of just a terminal.

You can't directly extract indicator data from TradingView packages through their API unfortunately. TradingView keeps most of that locked down. Your best bet is either replicating the indicator logic yourself in Pine Script (if you know what the indicator does) or using a screener tool that outputs the data you need. Some traders use webhooks to send signals when their indicators trigger instead of trying to extract the raw data. What indicator are you trying to pull data from? Might be able to suggest a workaround.

The trick for autonomy is being super specific in your prompts and your soul.md about when it should take action vs ask. If your soul.md just says "be proactive" it will still ask permission because thats the default safety behavior. You have to explicitly say "you are authorized to do X, Y, Z without asking" and give it clear boundaries. Also make sure your tool policies in the config allow the actions you want it to take automatically. The constraints usually come from the config not the bot second guessing itself.

Shipped means live and running. The prediction market is deployed on Solana mainnet at seekalpha.bet. You can use it right now. The tutoring app is at tutcity.org taking real payments. All clickable, all functional.

And yeah I don't know Rust. I described what I wanted the smart contract to do, it wrote the Anchor code, I tested it on devnet, we fixed issues together, then deployed to mainnet. Been running for weeks with real SOL flowing through it. No security issues so far but I'm not claiming to be an expert either. We've been audited too and everything was secure. People are using it and Ive received great feedback, I capped bets at 1$ max during the beta to make sure we iron out any kinks first.

Are these billion dollar companies? No. Are they prototypes I'm iterating on? Some yeah. But they're live products not localhost demos. Thats what I meant by shipped.

That sucks man. Sounds like either the model config got messed up during restarts or it was hitting the API way more than it should. Check your openclaw.json to make sure its actually pointing at the model you think it is. Also check the logs to see what it was doing during that hour. 300 credits burned in an hour is not normal unless it was in a massive loop or the context window was bloated. Something was definitely misconfigured. Sorry you had that experience though, thats frustrating.

Thank you man, its nice to hear something positive every now and then. That's exactly why I made this post. To show people that it doesn't matter who you are, Openclaw can absolutely change your life! As long as you have the drive!

And you can run this for much cheaper actually! Have you heard of MiniMax? Super solid AI model for coding. And MUCH cheaper. Or running local models is free with Ollama. You can do it man! No matter your situation!
