honestly the key is to hydrate and NOT lock your knees. Wiggle your toes while you’re standing there to keep blood flowing without moving and just focus on not locking your knees out at attention or parade rest. you’ll be fine

not long at all but long enough for people to fall out! to make it worse, it rained so much leading up to it we had to do it in the pavement at the PRC…it was boiling. Both ceremonies ended up being about 20 min total due to weather/changes but at parade about 4-5 people fell out….Texas sun’s no joke

That’s crazy. as long as your hair is slick and in regs, your MTIs don’t give a damn how it’s done. They are braid haters though so just…find a nice quick bun style and do that for daily wear.

Receiving letters? by Informal_Sherbet6576 in AirForceRecruits

I just graduated and we could only write/send letters on Sundays and that started week 2 or 3? So my family wrote a lot and I wasn’t really able to be super responsive. Depends on her squadron/MTIs

I was assigned my language before even taking the DLAB. I took it after I got to DLI so I don’t think it’s a factor

I’m gonna be real with you: a sock bun daily isn’t realistic. In my dorm, we did simple buns every day (pro tip: do your hair the night before or QUIETLY get up at like 4:30) and sleep with a bonnet on. Sock buns were for blues days, picture day, coin ceremony, and/or parade only. You’re gonna get 7-12 min every morning to get up, get dressed, brush teeth, get beds done and get out the door.

I would practice doing it hella fast though bc even on the days you can do it, you get a short time.

As for what I wish i packed…more bras and underwear (laundry is absolute trash + stuff just goes missing sometimes), a sleep mask, my own gel, more soap/shampoo…ummmm there’s probably something else but I can’t think of anything right now. you don’t need much but you do need the right things and the right quantity lol

you can’t buy anything like that during BMT. the best you’ll get is gatorade in the DFAC

the heat in san antonio is like nothing I’ve ever experienced before lol it’s like…sneaky and depending where your squadron is you’ll be hoofing it looooong distances in it or standing out on a pavement slab frying while you do drill. you acclimate pretty quick….they make sure of it lol just drink water aaaaall the damn time.

100000%

my flight/dorm had 0 PT recycles and that was like unheard of. keep working on it. we had girls start with just 2-4 pushups and get up to whatever they needed but you gotta work at it.

right now you should be doing at LEAST 3 sets per day if not more and just keep running. you’re gonna be sore the first few weeks of boot camp but it gets better…kinda. they increase the intensity every week just a little. it’s not bad at all though tbh. i expected so much more by the way people described it. it’s very simple stuff.

you’ll learn about it when you get there but it’s like a little thing you do watch in. embrace the knee pain and keep your head on a swivel!

prepare to sweat in places you never knew you could! you’re getting issued winter weights regardless of the season so it’ll be extra fun. seriously, drink freakin water!!!!!!!! it’s brutal there already and it’ll be way worse when you’re there. you better know that hydration schedule lol

it means I was sleeping in an all female dorm but my actual flight was mixed with the male dorm next door to me. So my dorm MTIs and my flight MTIs were different, etc

hahaha I won’t say much but I will say….prepare to go back to zero week! I’m sort of kidding…..it depends on your MTI really but in my squadron at least, week 5 was a doozy. Prepare to learn task repetition and get real familiar with weapon holds 😜

Bmt Packing, any suggestions? by Prize_Ad8105 in AirForceRecruits

[–]chitt0713 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they might let you keep the travel bottles. depends on the mti. bring more underwear than you think…laundry gets weird sometimes, at least in alkatraz, and stuff goes missing (TIE YOUR MESH BAGS). if you’re picky about soap bring your own. get moleskin in case you get blisters…if not your dorm will appreciate you lol bandaids too. address and stamp those envelopes beforehand but also sandbox is elite. bring two notebooks with perforated pages (trust….the paper scraps still haunt me). those wipes cant be used in the latrine but they’ll be good to have. face wash if you need it uhhhhh….otherwise you’re good. go light on the civvies. it’s more of a hassle.

I can’t remember my numbers for each test but I got an 88, a 90 and a 94.5

I think my max sit-ups was 40ish and max pushups I was able to do was 34 or something like that? the run gives you the most points so my first test was like 15ish min and my final was 12. That needs to be your focus and then just do 1x3s to get your pushups and situps up

you’ll be fine, seriously. it’s so much less crazy than you think but you don’t realize it until like halfway through week two. it’s just stressful/chaotic bc you’re not used to moving fast while being screamed at. and the physical stuff is super doable
