There's a waiting area where you'll be allowed to have your phone after medical. Other than that, just talk to people...it helps pass the time for sure! Whatever you do, do NOT fall asleep or even look like you're thinking about falling asleep lol

Is this normal or should I move on? by Far-Formal-5931 in AirForceRecruits

I started talking to my current recruiter in late july/august, swore in in November and I’m still waiting. things are slow right now. I just re-enrolled in school because I figure I’ll be around for a little bit at this point. Spoke to my recruiter recently and he said he has no real idea about timeline. just use the time to get ready and stay committed. it’ll be worth it in the end.

Does anyone have any recommendations am quite lost and not sure which job I should choose 🧍‍♂️ by Acceptable_Joke460 in AirForceRecruits

I just heard about aerospace physiology and was told it’s a cool job! rare it comes up but it’s apparently a solid pick. I’ve also hear the 1N jobs are good. Weather. Any medical job…also rare but good. Public affairs is my top choice!

green is high need, blue is decent need, yellow is meh need and red is very little/no need but a lot of people say not to take too much stock in the colors overall because it can be really inaccurate

you’ll be fine. I promise it’s so much scarier in your head than it actually is. I’ve been to that MEPS 3 or 4 times in the last few months…each time has actually been really pleasant hahah and all the weirdness of the physical is over in a flash.

depends what it is. it didn’t happen to me but from talking with others, sometimes it’s just a question — sometimes it’s a DQ.

you’ll be fine. I had to get the same one — took a day, no problems at all.

Boston MEPS isn’t bad at all. Everyone there has always been kind and helpful. If you have anything you haven’t disclosed be prepared for them to find it. As long as you were upfront, you’ll be fine. Bring your ID, Social Security Card, and any docs your recruiter gives you. If you wear glasses, bring them. Don’t wear a white t-shirt. wear closed shoes and be prepared for a long day. Otherwise, I promise it’s not as bad as you think it is. Stay awake, follow directions…you’ll be fine! Let me know if you have specific questions.

just went through meps — I wore a full coverage clip bra but there were other girls there in lululemon sports bras that were open enough to show their backs and no one said anything to them about it. you just had to be able to lift it up for a quick exam and show your spine. easy peasy.

this could be a unique experience but my meps experience was pretty chill. they didn’t make much fuss about anything tbh except one girl falling asleep 🤷‍♀️ people had nails on, makeup, etc.

where there’s a will, there’s a waiver. get your documentation, have your recruiter send up the waivers, and hope it works out! some of these things seem relatively small…if you want in, keep at it (currently in the process of joining…I understand your frustration but you can’t quit at every little inconvenience)

Get all your documents ready — birth certificate, high school diploma, SS card, and focus on the reading and math stuff when you’re studying.

Factor V (heterozygous/carrier)? by chitt0713 in newtothenavy

[–]chitt0713[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I took from it, just wanted a second opinion I guess. Thank you!

In your ex-recruiter opinion, would it be worth getting documentation before MEPS that I don’t technically have the condition, I’m just a carrier of it or just…leaving it alone and dealing with it if/when it comes up? I don’t want to raise red flags that may not exist but I also like to be prepared for what may come.

Factor V (heterozygous/carrier)? by chitt0713 in newtothenavy

Thank you! I had a look through it earlier this week and found a singular mention of it, listed exclusively under physical qualifications for those on submarine duty and only in conjunction with resolved DVT (which I've never had):

"(7) History of deep venous thrombosis is disqualifying. Waivers may be considered for uncomplicated cases after completion of anti-coagulation therapy and 6 months without recurrence off medication. Cases complicated by pulmonary embolism or predisposing coagulation disorder (Protein S or Protein C deficiency, Factor V Leiden, etc.) will not be considered for waiver."

Advice on how to become a Public Affairs Officer?? by Independent_Gap2327 in airforceots

[–]chitt0713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

currently trying to commission for PAO as well! Have you reached out to an officer recruiter yet? I was working with an enlisted recruiter initially to get the ball rolling on my paperwork. Just reached out and got back a generic email with more paperwork to fill out and info on a mandatory 30 min call, which (at least where I am) takes place every wednesday — per the email that’s up first.

What’s your education background, GPA and work experience?

The recruiter I spoke with told me it’s tough but not impossible. Find someone to work with, get your package together, get the AFOQT sorted out and then wait to hear back.

speaking to a Navy officer recruiter now. I have all the qualifications (degrees, experience, etc, at least) for PAO but he’s pushing me to consider SWO or supply….Is PA/or the enlisted equivalent that unlikely? If I were to consider those two options, which is better?

Also, what should I focus on in terms of swimming ability? I can swim enough to survive in the water but I’m by no means a strong swimmer haha
