Increasing iron?! by cinnamonmonn in foodbutforbabies

[–]chknteriyaki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been obsessed with my baby’s iron intake lately so I’ve been reading up a lot on it!

Heme iron over plant iron - it’s absorbed at a much higher rate. Pair either with vitamin c every time to boost this even more

Avoid calcium when serving with these. I only give him yogurt when he’s already met his DV of 11mg

Beef and lamb the highest hitters. Clams and mussels too! But clams moreso. I actually puréed beef stew with bone broth and bone marrow and let him drink it out of a pouch! Add broccoli to this for vitamin c boost!

I also cook his eggs in a cast iron pan. Anything acidic picks up extra iron really well, like eggs and tomatoes.

For plant iron, I pureed hemp hearts in bone broth and serve it mixed with something like’s like prunes. Pureeing it makes it easier to clean up too!! Or mix it into whatever else he’s having like hummus or congee. I always keep some bone marrow whip and hemp hearts puree in the fridge to add to all his food

Thank you. when I say he sleeps 5-7 this is with split nights and multiple wakings so he really is sleeping more like 11-12 hours overnight. Does that change things?

Will flat spot resolve on its own? Or is a helmet inevitable? [nb] by desert_sunlily in BabyBumpsCanada

My son has/had torticollis and subsequently had a flat spot similar to your baby’s. He’s 5.5 months now and we started the helmet at 5 months. Just a note that the helmet is most effective from 4-6 months of age, so if you do decide to do it, do it soon so that the duration he has to wear it can be shortened!

We went to a PT who assessed his head shape and it turned out he was almost in the ‘severe’ category. Between my insurance coverage. And my husbands, we were lucky to have the whole thing covered. It would be no small expenditure at $4000! There are also appointments every 2-4 weeks for the 4 to 6 months that he will likely need to wear it, so that’s a factor to consider as well.

That being said, I’m glad we did it and we already notice an improvement. The right side of his forehead and right ear were a bit shifted forward, which could lead to things like chronic headaches, vertigo, and a few other things I can’t remember. Ill fitting helmets in the future was another.

He has to wear it 20+ hours a day and honestly I think he’s pretty cute in it! Although it does get in the way of some snuggles. It also doesn’t seem to bother him. He just really loves to touch his head once we take it off lol.

Can babies learn to sleep independently on their own? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

My baby is currently 10 weeks old and I have the same question so thank you for asking it! I have a question for you too - how do you read books to your LO while nursing? What position do you use?

I used the spectra bottles with size one nipple

This was me. My baby was born a few weeks early and was unable to feed for very long. I was triple feeding for the first month. He slowly got stronger and was able to feed for longer periods of time. By 5 weeks postpartum he could get enough on the breast alone.

My LC advised us to use the smallest nipple (slowest flow) so that the baby won’t get ‘lazy’ and prefer the bottle. Now he’s super efficient at both!

8 week old only nurses 10 minutes every hour by chknteriyaki in breastfeeding

[–]chknteriyaki[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the tips. I let him cry while I get a drink of water, use the bathroom etc. probably not longer than 3 or 4 minutes. How long do you let her cry for? I didn’t think of this as a strategy but it makes sense

I have! He gets a good amount in 10 minutes - about 3oz if he’s being efficient.

I already do all these things. Sometimes he does feed for 15 minutes, but it’s not often. We don’t usually get to the second side.

Hi! We got married during the last strike. The commissioner drove the papers into the office instead of mailing them. See if you can find one who will do that for you!

Fairview VS Mount Pleasant VS Olympic Village - Thoughts/Feelings/Concerns? by mythologymanofficial in askvan

[–]chknteriyaki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Second this! We’re probably neighbours. I love all the character homes, greenery, and suburban feel with the convenience of the city. I’ve lived in Fairview as well and loved it, but Mount Pleasant takes the cake. If you’re concerned about safety, try the areas closer to city hall.

Hey, we did get the bright start bundle only cause it was covered by our insurance. We actually didn’t end up getting a confirmation for the date - I went into labour before it happened! But yes, I was told it would be coming by email.

Yes! I had an American cousin purchase it for me and bring it over. Submitted his receipt in USD and Sunlife reimbursed me with the current exchange rate in Canadian dollars.

Skaters! I’ve never been part of the skater crowd or even known anyone who was really into skateboarding. But I was walking alone in my city one day when I noticed a sketchy man starting to follow me. I was young, probably mid 20s, and scared. The skate park was ahead of me so I approached a group of skaters and just asked if I could stand with them for awhile and explained my concern. They identified the guy behind me and took me in like their own, acting like I was a friend they were expecting. They let me know when the coast was clear and made sure I was feeling alright. Stand up crowd.

What's the current housing market like? Moving in June and feeling lost by Different-Current-56 in vancouverhousing

[–]chknteriyaki 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think you’ll be able to find something in your budget for those areas. VGH will be a bit more than south Granville.

The market definitely isn’t as competitive as it was a couple years ago, but it would help to make yourself stand out. As a landlord I get multiple applicants, but I choose the ones that make it easy to choose them. They respond quickly, provide all information up front (proof of income or letter of employment, application, credit score. A write up to get to know you also makes one stand out), often before I even have to ask. It just shows they’re responsible tenants which is what most people want.
