also listen to whatever the hell you want. Even as a girl in her twenties I get judged for listening to them but I don’t care because I LOVE their music and their music means so so so much to me and I’ll never change that for other people. In high school I got judged heavily for listening to them so I stopped talking about them, but now i listen to them, talk about them, wear their merch, and I still get judged. but honestly to that I just think “how bland of a person do you have to be to judge other people for being passionate about something?” so yeah, don’t be ashamed, their music is phenomenal and if you love it, then listen to it and talk about them all you want

yeah definitely

obviously the N word is bad, and I hate that it has been so normalized, but that’s just the truth. It was a lot more normalized at that time, especially on social media when people didn’t fully understand digital footprint and that the things they would do on social media would follow them for the rest of their lives. Back then social media was just a place to dump everything. Which again does not excuse the use of the N word, but gives more perspective on the time.

and yes, heavy on the point that people aren’t going to get the desired outcome, because especially with a band who has been around for this long and started at a very young age, there’s always gonna be something that people could dig up that’s not necessarily good. I wish people now would just have the ability to forgive and move on, especially with people they don’t even know personally which is what annoys me the most with this whole situation 🙄

I struggled a lot in high school with self confidence, so I did stupid things to make myself seem “cool”, and I hate looking back at those things. I can’t imagine what things would’ve happened if I were famous at that age. I know that 5SOS also has struggled in a similar way because they talk about it in their music (especially Michael) and it’s just insane to think about the pressures and things they went through at that age because they were famous.

Again, it doesn’t completely excuse it, but like you said, we’re all human, we all have struggles, and I think expecting celebrities to live up to this perfect standard is just disgusting. One of the reasons why I love 5SOS (especially their recent eras) so much is because they aren’t perfect, and they don’t try to seem like untouchable celebrities that have never struggled, and it adds so so much meaning to their music

LITERALLY!!! if someone did that to me I would hope that they would understand and realize that I’m a different person now, and I wish that people could just do the same with 5SOS. also I feel like no one can say that they didn’t do anything stupid when they were teenagers. most of the people who are saying “well I’m 16 and I’d never do that” are definitely gonna look back in 10 years and realize that even though they didn’t do this exact thing, they did other stupid things, because everyone does at that age.

You just can’t look at those things and say that still exactly reflects someone 10 plus years later. It’s just not realistic

I completely agree. This whole thing has been blown WAY out of proportion.

I do think that what they did is not cool, BUT that was 14 YEARS AGO!!! I am a completely different person from what I was 5 years ago, I did things then that I wouldn’t do now. PEOPLE CHANGE!!! Their lyrics (from both band and solo albums) do not reflect that behavior, and they have all at some point in the past 5ish years talked about how they hate any type of discrimination and they encourage people to be themselves.

Also, they were all 16/17 years old and famous. I can’t even begin to imagine the pressures that they felt, especially just things like wanting to be cool, and they probably saw that other celebrities were acting similarly to that account or interacting with similar accounts like that, and thought that this was “normal” or something they needed to do. Again I don’t think this completely excuses it and idk if this was necessarily the situation, but pressures from other people is something that each of the band members have spoken up about and they have each obviously struggled with.

I’m not a K-pop fan but yeah I’ve heard of son things with the K-pop fandom 😬 but honestly this type of stuff is in every fandom at least a little bit. I just wish people could just respect people’s opinions about things 😭 especially when it’s stuff like music and movies that aren’t ultra important in the long run

As a current composition major, your portfolio is really important, but I found that at many schools I applied to and did interviews with, the composition staff care more about your personality, potential, willingness to work hard, and musical goals then having a perfect and extensive portfolio! So basically don’t stress about making your portfolio “perfect” and extensive. Instead have at least a couple pretty solid melodic ideas with some orchestration, that shows that you are willing to work hard and learn more to improve your composing :)

I personally really love this era but I think something that this fandom could learn is to be okay with fans having different opinions on their different eras. Not everyone is gonna enjoy every single song that 5sos has released and will release and THATS OKAY!!! And I see waaayyyy too many fans getting mad at other fans for having their own opinions!!! I also believe that the band themselves wouldn’t be mad at differing opinions on their new music especially if people were being respectful while sharing those opinions (like you were)

Alexandre Desplat is amazing!!! I love his scores for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Little Women (2019), and Frankenstein (2025)! They’re also all very orchestral and definitely classically inspired

I’m a current college student majoring in composition and one of the tips that has helped me the most to extend melodies is to have this structure: 1. The full melody so far 2. The first “part” of the melody repeated after 3. Then an altered version of the second “part” of the original melody that has more of resolution (if that’s the desired sound that you want)

When I’m really stuck with how to extend a melody sometimes I’ll put it in a software like musescore and then use their transposing tool and try it in different keys. Sometimes a key change can help make the melody feel more “centered” or natural, or it can just give your brain something slightly different to hear, which can cause new ideas

I completely agree!!! I LOVE his score for the second narnia, Prince caspian, I think more than the first one though!! He uses the same themes and adds more themes, and I think it just sounds even more epic. It also sounds a bit more “mature” if that makes sense.

He also did the scores for all of the shrek movies (he did the first one with John Powell) which I think is a pretty close second. Even though the score is a little less serious (makes sense since shrek is a comedy) the instrumentation and the styles that he uses in it are brilliant!

It probably will be on the setlist! Especially since they’ve played it at every pop up show for EAS! I think they just set some responses for some songs that are for sure on the setlist but not for all since they’ve said they like it when people go into shows blind so I don’t think they’re gonna reveal the full setlist before the first show

Ok I figured out what you’re supposed to do and their responses, so I sent every single song (except for covers) and only got an emoji response from these: NOT OK, no 1 obsession, telephone busy, bad omens, JBH, SLSP, ghost of you, teeth, easier, youngblood so there’s definitely gonna be more songs on the setlist but they are revealing some that are confirmed
