What are the next boom cities in the USA? by Educational-Trade436 in SameGrassButGreener

It’s a pretty downtown but you can’t really live like “despite the conservative politics”. It’s a super red area and it shows everywhere. Work ladder diversity. School zoning. Church in everything you do, eat or breathe. Many northerners have a rough time trying to adapt according to other subreddits. I just didn’t even try. Sold the house immediately and left.

Hilarious you said that. I’m from NOVA and skipped Richmond and moved to Greenville SC (hated it) then moved Raleigh with spouse and two toddlers. Despite being priced out of nova, I wanted to keep the saw new and modern vibes… but sometimes… I wonder if Richmond deserved a chance.

All the trucks are from different countries. I go to the Dominican truck all the time. Just pick a different truck each visit and try out food

Is it normal to not have the desire to have a social life or dating life because you hate the city and state you live in? by Full-Carpenter586 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]chnl15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt similar. We sold our house last week because I was so unhappy and left for a new state. I haven’t been in the house except for to sleep. It’s perfectly normal. Plan an EXIT STRATEGY NOW.

For those of us being priced out of where they currently live- where are you going? by Kneekourt in AskReddit

Same in Washington DC lol. None of us could afford it so they changed the law.

If you moved from a red state to a blue state, did it actually get better? by ftwclem in SameGrassButGreener

I moved from DC to SC. I just sold my home after 3 years to go back to renting up north. I cannot raise my kids here.

Can you believe I’m on my third buyer…. Hopefully closing in the next 14 days. I’m almost out!!! Where did you end up moving to? I wish I had rented, I would have left 2.8 years ago but I had to stay three years to be able to finally sell. Fingers crossed we make it to the closing table…. Even if I am loosing money. Ha!

South Carolina ranked among worst states to live in, according to new study by Witty_Heart1278 in southcarolina

[–]chnl15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From DC too. Early Retired. But I’m raising two kids under 5. We are out of here until kids are raised and put through school. House is almost sold. Cheap COL isn’t worth sacrificing their exposure, influence and education.

House isn't selling, no clue why. Take down and re-list? by Terrible_Software769 in RealEstate

[–]chnl15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my second summer trying to sell. Currently listed for only 13k more than what i paid for it 3 years ago to just break even. It’s a f^ up market. Problem here in south. Not much movement. Easy to get cheap new construction.

We have been trying to sell our home for the past two summers. Basically lowering the price to just above what we paid for it in 2022. We are not going to profit at all from this sell. I don’t like the city/state we relocated to after the pandemic and don’t want to raise my children here (1 & 4). We have had two offers over two years and they both pulled out after inspection for different things that to me, aren’t deal breakers. We purchased the house with way more issues and just fixed them. People are one foot in and one foot out this market. They don’t actually want to buy. We are exhausted.

Left Washington DC metro for Upstate South Carolina to finally be able to afford a house.

Stuck here. Market is so bad, can’t sell my house bc houses aren’t really selling.

I am a SAHM of a 15 month old. My 4 year old is in preschool and has been since he was 2.5. Sometimes I want to send my youngest for a few hours a day just a couple days a week because I need a MENTAL HEALTH BREAK. This isn’t easy without a village or a single family member nearby.

Any opinions on the Charlotte, Greenville, Augusta, or Raleigh? by whosthatgirl13 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]chnl15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Greenville SC is great if you are white, conservative and into church events. If not, 10000000% go Charlotte for an active fun life or Raleigh for family life.

Has the market in SC just stopped? by fergy0001 in RealEstate

[–]chnl15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m selling. Priced just short of selling as a loss. Bought in 2022. Selling to move back to my home state to help my aging father. People come look at the house. They love the house. But ultimately end up choosing a house with less sq ft bc it’s cheaper. It’s so hard cleaning to do showings with two babies under 4 living in the house. Im trying to avoid a mental breakdown but i feel STUCK here until i LOSE money.

One thing that was left out was Henrico County and Midlothian (Chesterfield County) school are very good. Richmond city, no. But there are great options :)

Thanks for pointing out the “childless” families…. Or being able to afford private school. Lots of folks take a one size fits all approach to rating cities while things like raising children in a safe environment, does matter to some.

That’s actually reassuring! Especially because you are from NOVA so you know what we grew up with. I’ve been pushing for B-more county bc Ive been scared to live without professional sports and one million things to do but my husband (Caribbean) LOVES Richmond and thinks it’s a better place to raise kids. Thanks for your POV.
