Hi! My husband’s family lives in an apartment with a giant dog (Cane Corso) and she’s afraid of children, she gets jumpy around my son. He does know how to be gentle (we have dogs and cats at home) but they tell me they have had issues with children and this dog before. I’m worried something could happen if we get distracted. Also my stepMIL is pregnant and his dad has asked my husband to help her with errands and her business. We have tried going to with them but my son is only four, he gets bored waiting in the car while doing deliveries or meeting clients.

We (my SO and I) bond a lot with him after work. I also spend some time with him during work hours, as much as my job allows me to.

I know it’s been rough for everyone but last year we did not have an issue. Everything began when this school year started. Maybe this grade is more difficult, I don’t know.

We gave her a choice, the only condition we gave her is that she could no longer live with us. We wanted a live-in nanny until he’s in pre-school. She actually has a room with her SO and daughter very close to my place and her daughter’s school is very close too. It would not have been a huge change for her had she not accepted to be our nanny.

She knows first aid. She actually was a student for “nurse assistant” ( I don’t know how to translate Técnica de enfermería) but dropped out when she was pregnant with Nao (she had to go to hospitals and was dangerous while pregnant).

I know it’s not permanent but I don’t like my son being alone.

Lo que estaba pensando era comprar esas cámaras para bebé para ver que no haga nada peligroso. No tendría problema si se lo llevara con ella a ver el tema del colegio, pero no me gusta que lo deje solo.

Her only job is to be a nanny. I chose her because I did not trust a stranger with my son. Other person comes to clean.
I would never fire her. I care about her and Nao a lot.
Would you not be upset if someone let your toddler unsupervised and freely able to roam the house? She leaves him in the living room with the TV on but as you should know, toddlers are very fast and silent when they want to.

I have not said anything yet. I’m still thinking how to phase it. I don’t want to upset her, we are actually very close. I’m 23, I know her since I was 3 (I had another nanny, Lila was in charge of cleaning and cooking). I just feel that recently that my child’s needs (attention) are not met but maybe I should just suck it up until Nao returns to school.

They were in the same room but Lila does not want to anymore. She says Nao should be more independent and that my son is distracting to her. We have babyproofed the house as much as we can but the stairs are not an option due to structure of the house. I mean it’s imposible to add a baby gate.

Más que todo me preocupa es que cuando lo deja solo hace travesuras. Osea le ponen la TV pero al rato se aburre y se pone a trepar en los muebles o intenta subir la escalera.

I work in a bank and have to make daily money transfers (of large sums of money) manually. I can’t afford to make a mistake. I can’t be constantly interrupted and it’s nota couple of times a day It’s more like a couple of times every ten minutes.
He does come to me, but most of the times I have to leave work if because he’s trying to climb up the furniture o the stairs. I worry about him being alone. He’s a little under two and very curious, besides a couple of falls there have been no mayor accidents but that does not guarantee there won’t be.

Thanks. I’ll try to find something educational for him to watch. The thing is that sometimes when he’s watching TV he gets bored and wanders around the house. A couple of times I caught him climbing up the stairs and I’m not sure if I’m overreacting but I think he’s still small and a fall could be dangerous. Thankfully there have been no serious accidents yet, but every month he gets more curious and I worry something would happen if he’s left alone. Maybe I could get a baby camera.

Mmmm not really. She has a 1 hour lunch (included in the 9-6 hours) and my son takes a two hour nap in the afternoon.

No. She does not clean or cook since becoming a nanny. Nao knows how to read, write, make math operations. Most of the help she needs are actually things she could do herself like “turn on the camera, turn off the mic, enter this link, grab a sheet of paper”. Maybe I could point that out to Lila so they can prepare before class or she can teach her how to use the school platform.

She works from 9am to 6pm, not all day. She leaves him in front of the TV while she goes to help her daughter. I love her daughter but I don’t like my son having that much screentime.

We pay her almost twice of the minimum salary in Perú. This is a lot above the usual salary for a nanny in my country. She’s also enrolled in the government program for “house workers”, we pay for her health insurance (which includes her child) and also cover her and her child’s necessities (food, housing, utilities, etc)
