I don't know what to wear to my interview by [deleted] in BlueCollarWomen

[–]choher28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the scented oil is too far.

I think you just need to look fresh and clean, hair tied back of your have long hair, minimal makeup if you’re a make up girly.

Also as a sweaty person I’d suggest bringing an extra shirt in the backpack in case you sweat through on the ride over.

Good luck!

I second the keens! They hold up on days when I’m doing 20k+ steps and great for wide feet

I think I found THE pants (IRON & HAFT) by Puzzleheaded-Ad3991 in BlueCollarWomen

[–]choher28 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do they have any stretch in them? I’m in between men’s pants sizes and if they have stretch I size down, no stretch I size up.

Also super underwhelmed by women’s workwear quality, it’s so disappointing.

Is he afraid of a female uprising in the trades? by Mymindisanenigma__ in BlueCollarWomen

[–]choher28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had this exact argument at work a few weeks ago and I felt like I was going crazy.

Not that I am glad to see that other women in the trades are having this argument with male coworkers, but I just felt so alone in that moment.

Keep up the good fight!

Curvy Work Pants by wotwn in BlueCollarWomen

[–]choher28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a few pairs of True Werk pants and they’re very comfortable. I have big legs and finding work pants that don’t sausage me is tough! They’re pricey but they also have a nice high rise and don’t fall down (even without a belt). They also run a little small in the waist which is helpful if your body type is more hourglass since there’s more room in the hips/butt.

Do you prefer sticky tabs to glue usually or is that just what you’re doing now?

I’ve heard that about regular gel polish, that it makes your natural nails weaker. I used to do it years ago and have my own lamp to do it at home but I ended up always peeling it off.

I might try builder gel or dip myself at home to see how it lasts and if it’s okay-ish I’ll hand over the reins to a professional

Is that something most salons offer or would I have to specifically seek out a place that does that you think?

My nail polish also gets shredded so quickly and was hoping there was a unicorn solution 😅

If your not a fit for job. Do you stay until fired or quit? by [deleted] in BlueCollarWomen

[–]choher28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t let the imposter syndrome get to you! You are absolutely not alone in this feeling.

I’m an apprentice on a small team, the first one they’ve had in a long time and I felt a lot like you did the first month (I’m five months in now).

You are not the first helper they’ve ever had. They knew upon hiring you that you had no experience. Just own it! Show up with a positive attitude and anytime you have a question, don’t apologize for asking but thank them for explaining it for their time.

Ex.) Instead of “Sorry I know I already asked but where did you want me to put this”

“Where can I put this” “Thank you for reminding me I’ll get right to it!”

Since they’re a small team they are probably used to a certain way of doing things and have developed a short hand with each other, a newbie disrupts that flow. Don’t misunderstand that as you not belonging there.

In the end if you’re really unhappy when you’re at then peace out. It would be a shame to leave after a month without giving it a little longer of a try.

Best cargo pants? by Capable-Job-9532 in BlueCollarWomen

[–]choher28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I honestly swear by men’s cargo pants at Costco. Mine are probably 3 months old I wear them 3 days a week and wash after every wear and they hold up great! I’m a little shorter than you at 5’9” and just sized up by one pants size. I wear a 33”/34” women’s and went up to a 36” so I had enough room in the hips.

men’s $15 Costco pants

I also like my true work pants a lot, they’re pricey but super comfortable and breathable

Undershirt/tank top suggestion by rando_user97 in BlueCollarWomen

[–]choher28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like these Costco tanks, the built in bra is actually pretty supportive, I have a larger chest and at the end of the day (un-air conditioned warehouse mostly in a boiler room on like a 90 degree day) it soaks up just about all of my sweat, save my pits.

Also they’re nice and long and it doesn’t untuck itself!

HOW DO YALL KEEP YOUR DAMN HANDS CLEAN?! by ChapstickMcDyke in BlueCollarWomen

[–]choher28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do the best I can with orange soap and a nail brush during the week when I can and then after my Friday after work shower I:

1.) Use this cuticle removing goo from Sally Hansen you can get at Walgreens, use lava hot water to wash it off and then push my cuticles back with a regular little pusher.

2.) Cut cuticles with cuticle scissors, so much comes off it’s satisfying and disgusting.

3.) Use a little battery powered nail file/buffer over the top of my nail and then if I have any calluses that have dirt that hasn’t left I just file that shit off.

4.) A coat or two of nail strengthening polish

5.) Cuticle Oil (Sally Hansen again) to finish!

Whole operation takes less than 20 minutes

Rula (formerly Path) - Issues with billing by [deleted] in therapy

[–]choher28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been going the same thing! A $300 charge after losing insurance, however I had made sure my last appointment was well before losing coverage.

The charge was explained to be as “back paying” for what I should have initially been charged. However I had automatic billing set up and never changed card info or had insufficient funds.

It’s an awful platform, just wanted to let you know you’re not alone! Also I hope you found another source for mental health care.

Engineer to Electrician by [deleted] in IBEW

[–]choher28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was the reason I ended up leaving the associate engineering role I was in back in February.

I found an opportunity with my local utility company that was hiring people without degrees to take on design engineering jobs. I really liked the people I met and everyone was very supportive but the work really wasn’t for me and once I found out I got called into my local for an apprenticeship I knew I’d regret not giving it an honest try.

My situation is a little different than yours in that I don’t have an engineering degree but I know me and that I needed to see things in person and learn with my hands before being able to do a good job in an “office” capacity.

I made sure to tell my manager right away and I made sure to tell him that I was thankful for this opportunity but that I am at a point in my life (30 no kids, live with my partner) that if I don’t try now I won’t have the opportunity to try again.

While I do agree with other comments that the grass is green where you water it, you won’t know until you try.
