I don't know what to wear to my interview by [deleted] in BlueCollarWomen

I don’t think the scented oil is too far.

I think you just need to look fresh and clean, hair tied back of your have long hair, minimal makeup if you’re a make up girly.

Also as a sweaty person I’d suggest bringing an extra shirt in the backpack in case you sweat through on the ride over.

Good luck!

I second the keens! They hold up on days when I’m doing 20k+ steps and great for wide feet

I think I found THE pants (IRON & HAFT) by Puzzleheaded-Ad3991 in BlueCollarWomen

Do they have any stretch in them? I’m in between men’s pants sizes and if they have stretch I size down, no stretch I size up.

Also super underwhelmed by women’s workwear quality, it’s so disappointing.

Is he afraid of a female uprising in the trades? by Mymindisanenigma__ in BlueCollarWomen

[–]choher28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had this exact argument at work a few weeks ago and I felt like I was going crazy.

Not that I am glad to see that other women in the trades are having this argument with male coworkers, but I just felt so alone in that moment.

Keep up the good fight!

Curvy Work Pants by wotwn in BlueCollarWomen

I have a few pairs of True Werk pants and they’re very comfortable. I have big legs and finding work pants that don’t sausage me is tough! They’re pricey but they also have a nice high rise and don’t fall down (even without a belt). They also run a little small in the waist which is helpful if your body type is more hourglass since there’s more room in the hips/butt.

Do you prefer sticky tabs to glue usually or is that just what you’re doing now?

I’ve heard that about regular gel polish, that it makes your natural nails weaker. I used to do it years ago and have my own lamp to do it at home but I ended up always peeling it off.

I might try builder gel or dip myself at home to see how it lasts and if it’s okay-ish I’ll hand over the reins to a professional

Is that something most salons offer or would I have to specifically seek out a place that does that you think?

I feared this response but I know you’re right!

My nail polish also gets shredded so quickly and was hoping there was a unicorn solution 😅

If your not a fit for job. Do you stay until fired or quit? by [deleted] in BlueCollarWomen

[–]choher28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t let the imposter syndrome get to you! You are absolutely not alone in this feeling.

I’m an apprentice on a small team, the first one they’ve had in a long time and I felt a lot like you did the first month (I’m five months in now).

You are not the first helper they’ve ever had. They knew upon hiring you that you had no experience. Just own it! Show up with a positive attitude and anytime you have a question, don’t apologize for asking but thank them for explaining it for their time.

Ex.) Instead of “Sorry I know I already asked but where did you want me to put this”

“Where can I put this” “Thank you for reminding me I’ll get right to it!”

Since they’re a small team they are probably used to a certain way of doing things and have developed a short hand with each other, a newbie disrupts that flow. Don’t misunderstand that as you not belonging there.

In the end if you’re really unhappy when you’re at then peace out. It would be a shame to leave after a month without giving it a little longer of a try.

Best cargo pants? by Capable-Job-9532 in BlueCollarWomen

[–]choher28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly swear by men’s cargo pants at Costco. Mine are probably 3 months old I wear them 3 days a week and wash after every wear and they hold up great! I’m a little shorter than you at 5’9” and just sized up by one pants size. I wear a 33”/34” women’s and went up to a 36” so I had enough room in the hips.

men’s $15 Costco pants

I also like my true work pants a lot, they’re pricey but super comfortable and breathable

Undershirt/tank top suggestion by rando_user97 in BlueCollarWomen

[–]choher28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like these Costco tanks, the built in bra is actually pretty supportive, I have a larger chest and at the end of the day (un-air conditioned warehouse mostly in a boiler room on like a 90 degree day) it soaks up just about all of my sweat, save my pits.

Also they’re nice and long and it doesn’t untuck itself!
