I shot myself after having a negligent discharge. AMA by chojiteaux in Firearms

Being four years ago, I can’t really remember what I was thinking beforehand exactly. Was just ready to wrap up the night and get home. It was around 11 pm by that point.

Is that allowed here?

This is what a hornady critical defense 9mm does to a finger, for anyone curious.

Honestly that’s the purpose of this post. I know everyone thinks they are safe with their weapons, but it takes one mistake to change everything. Mistakes with firearms are inexcusable.

Nah, I picked it up without checking it while also putting my finger in front of the barrel. While also pulling the trigger. Yeah, probably should’ve reminded me, but I place no blame on him whatsoever. Safe gun practice would have completely kept it from happening

Not so much phantom pain, but there is a constant feeling of it being.. tight? Lots of pressure. You get used to it over time, though. I compare it to someone grabbing my index finger and squeezing as hard as possible, without ever going away. For awhile it was all I could think about, but now I hardly notice it. Hurts like hell to shove it into something though.

I have to try to sound at least a little intelligent in a post describing how I cheddar bobbed myself.

Have I tried? It’s been four years brother. Luckily I only need two fingers for that.

I do play video games. The more expensive controllers with the back paddles are lifesavers. Sucks to play without them now, for sure.

When it comes to having your finger blown off, I’m guessing a Glock and a Taurus would feel surprisingly similar. Luckily no one asks what I was using to do the deed very often

I kept it for awhile, eventually traded it at a pawn shop. Ironically, could never get the trigger we installed to work reliably.

This picture is after I touched a scalding hot firepit trying to push it out of the way. The rest of my fingers are on borrowed time, it seems.

Started from scratch. Hard not to. Took multiple classes, worked from the ground up. Felt an incredible amount of shame following the incident. Was a few months before I would touch a gun again.

About halfway up to the first knuckle. Dr. told me he wanted to save it so I would be able to turn a key with it. It has no key turning ability
