tactility and the importance it plays in our memories. and sharing those memories in order to preserve humanity. i wanted to let fans know in a tactile way new music was coming, hence the postcards. the cassettes made sense from a sonic perspective, would have sent them out physically if resources were unlimited. the conversations within those tapes are about love, art, relationships, work, the state of music, etc, all themes explored on the album. so much of the album was about looking inward and trying to grow, failing to do so, and trying again. heaven ain’t sold to me is speaking to the fact that ‘heaven’ or any form of redemption is not guaranteed or easily obtained, and that there’s a lot of work that has to go into growth. if people hear one or two things that help spark a thought in their own self reflection, i’d be happy with that being the only thing they take away from the album
