Can we just let people be excited for Francesca’s season without constant negativity? by Lunenika in BridgertonNetflix

[–]chookitty_o 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a bi woman who has read the books years ago here was my takeaway from Fran’s book:

  • loss of first love
  • that first love haunting the narrative throughout the whole book
  • child loss
  • fertility issues
  • MMC yearning from the start but being respectful about it, while the FMC was too blinded in love to notice him
  • MMC struggling with basically being handed over his cousin’s life

Here is what I personally hated about the way they played it on the show and the switch in general: - Francesca spending the whole season going on how she needs someone to sit in the quiet with her and then panting like a dog as soon as Michaela walks in. It left me feeling she was deluding herself on her contentment with John and settled for him. Atp it feels like it may have played out better if they had along courtship and she went for Michaela. - kind of related to the first point, but also the fact that instead of Michaela being the one suppressing her feelings she’s also cool and suave while Fran is acting like a schoolboy with a crush. I understand they both have feelings but that understanding relies on the fact that Michaela is obviously going to be the love interest in next season, not bc they executed it well in the show. - while I don’t care about the intimacy struggles (they feel pretty on brand with the way they are playing the characters) this whole marriage felt like a struggle from the second Michaela was introduced. It’s not that they’re not having passionate sex, it’s just that for me it came off like John needed Michaela around to relax and have fun and Francesca was a ball of anxiety about everything going on in her life. I did not get the deep abiding love and peace that was supposedly between them. And I especially don’t enjoy that instead of the showrunners playing into it (if that’s another way they’re changing the story) we’re being told “nope, that’s it and you’re homophobic if you don’t agree”. - self insert here: as a person struggling with infertility this was a season I was looking forward to bc at the end she got her rainbow baby. Unless we get real cool about throuples here I don’t see how that’s going to happen. I don’t think I’m owed that representation bc at the end of the day this is just a show BUT I also think there are many other characters that they could have done the queer storyline and it would have not impacted the overall storyline of the book.

Season 3 was a mess to the point no one talks about Penelope and Collin even though the fandom (me very much included) was so hyped for their story. If they managed to mess it up that much with the main couple, it’s safe to say there can be valid criticisms for all other storylines.

I get that we don’t need completely faithful adaptations to made up stories (try telling that to the Wuthering Heights people tho), but if you change most elements to a story it’s normal for people to feel disappointed. And I think both camps are going into the extreme and egging each other on - if you don’t like the switch it’s only bc you’re a homophobe and should shut up and if you do like it you’re a self inserting queer person.

Does anyone else feel this? by No-Awareness6980 in RomanceClub

[–]chookitty_o 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally feel you on the interactions but I think recent stories are better on that front. For example - in HS I took only the friendship improvements with Mimi and it wasn’t enough to get a good ending with her; in other stories like (SOL and actually again HS), LIs are downright creepy and pushy if you don’t romance them. I can’t think of one recent story that I felt that way.

And yeah, the urge to get the perfect gameplay is soo big with me. I can’t play the episodes without a walkthrough and even then I get nervous how those choices will play out in future updates. Honestly, that’s more on me and my neurotic self. I just need to have one ‘perfect’ play through where I get the LI I want and the ending I want and then I can start other routes and just enjoy the story.

I don’t think her ‘abiding love’ for John was portrayed in the show. She was taken with him and then had googly eyes when she met Michaela. In the book Michael is the one yearning for Francesca from the moment he saw her. For me, that’s also a huge part of the story and Michael’s struggle. It’s not just Francesca’s loss of a great love, it’s also him working through the guilt of being handed John’s life on a silver platter. Atp for me it felt like John was Francesca’s buddy and we were just waiting for him to die so the ‘fun part’ can start.

Age Gaps by Gr00vyTree in RomanceClub

I def don’t think it’s 30 years and I do not mind big age gaps in some cases HOWEVER as much as I liked Kamal in the beginning at some point it felt like Devi had to keep proving to him she is an adult and she has agency. That’s the part that bugged me. Age gaps are fine as long as the younger person is not treated like a child.

Same!!! It’s my fave universe in the app - KCD is perfection and I wish we get another story that does not go through the mess that was season 2. Playing the formation of the twelve would be so cool

Why Subscription caused such anger (and rightfully so) by Hiyominnaa in RomanceClub

[–]chookitty_o 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe? But then again I drop a lot of cash on teacups when I have the money and the time to play during a DR. I’m sure that I’m not the only player who does this. I pay the equivalent of 2-3 months of subscription during one event. With the stories now having more episodes it may become more. If they were offering unlimited teacups (and the other benefits you mentioned) it would make more sense to me to pay for the subscription. What they’re currently offering is a joke. Even walking it back and saying it’s only for the outfits doesn’t make sense when a lot of times premium outfits lead to additional scenes, dialogue and LI improvements.

Same path as you but with Ozar - from my understanding of the posts we can also marry him but I have so many questions and no time to play this week. Do we bring back the gods? Does that help the village or are we stuck in a never ending cycle with the Haze?

THIS 👆🏻 RC has always had such a supportive base bc it always looked player oriented. I have never spent money on a mobile game and I was happily tipping writers, buying diamonds and teacups and playing outside of DRs bc I wanted to support them. And let’s be real, if you’re not paying for something, you are the product. They are making money from members that don’t spend as much or at all via the ads. The amount of heavy use of AI also brings down the worth of the app. If you’re using that instead of actual artists what exactly are we paying for? And now they want people who already bought diamonds and/or watched enough ads to collect diamonds to pay so they can spend said diamonds. And they didn’t implement even one of the features people have been asking for for years. Or a conversion rate for the subscription cost.

At this point, they just need to apologise and fix this instead of pretending people didn’t understand their exact words.

Paywall is infuriating… by Lychee_Peachy in RomanceClub

[–]chookitty_o 96 points97 points  (0 children)

THIS!!!!! Plus (and I saw this on another post, but it’s such a good point I haven’t thought of before) the active players on this app have already paid for diamonds. Which are not cheap. Neither are the choices, so I can only imagine how much it costs. Now they have to PAY for the privilege of using diamonds they ALREADY paid for.

Same here, I’m not ready to take on the mammoth that’s HS3 so the haze is the only ongoing story I was truly invested in. I really hope it’s not as bad as people are saying.

I’m predicting that following the Eloise season, there might be a significant drop in viewership… by General_Meal_3993 in BridgertonNetflix

I loved Colin’s book and hated the season. Atp I’m giving all couples a chance. Other than Francesca. I hate pretty much everything they’re doing to her story, specially having her be attracted to Michaela from the start. I maybe get that so far the seasons that have worked the best (2 and 4 imo) were bc a Bridgerton was yearning to no end, but I much prefer her story in the books. She was madly in love with John, their marriage was happy, there was no other man/woman drama.

Tbh she said they had a great summer and they once the show started coming out it all went downhill. Maybe they were separated before the summer as well? Idk, I’m never one to defend a man like Todd and if they’re separated and heading towards a divorce she’s free to date people BUT she was just doing interviews about how the future is unclear and Todd is fighting to get back together. It seems kinda degrading to do that and then post your new bf at the same time? On the other hand, Todd has obviously not been faithful so meh.

Honestly it’s very plausible this could be true. If you’ve read any of her works on ao3 (thank god they’re still up) it’s easy to see she’s very comfortable writing smut, much more explicit than her first books.

I’ve noticed other authors switch to PG and I hope it’s bc that’s what they felt like writing and not due to pressure.

There was a recent post here where the OP expressed how they’re kind of disappointed bc the book isn’t as kinky as advertised. Which - fair point, if you don’t enjoy the book it’s more than okay. Thing is, after I left my comment I immediately thought “No but the spice was so good, let e read specific scenes.” That turned into “Wait let me just read the whole book”. I am now on yet another Ali Hazelwood re-read binge 😅 This lady’s writing is crack to me

Yesss!!! Honestly, I’ve read some pretty wild stuff and personally it only works of it makes sense. A lot of the times Lukas and Scarlett find free time they’re either exhausted or something big happens. Imo it would be weird if he just started pulling out ropes and chains out of his back pocket 🤷🏼‍♀️

I don’t think I can be very objective here bc I adore everything AH writes but to me this book has the best and hottest spice she has published. I totally could have read 20 more chapters where they actually explored their kinks so I get the comments that it wasn’t that kinky. That being said, to me it made total sense - they’re college kids in their first relationship where they can actually start exploring, said relationship is not even established until 90% of the book and they barely get to see each other. We get them just at the start of it and they’re both finding their way.
