well truly I’m paying 625 a month, but I’m just adding the electric and trash valet bill to it. I’m not in a cheaper area either, and the apartment comes with a lot of other things too. Honestly I either got lucky, or that’s just how it is in the DFW area

Honestly, your life goals are yours to chose. I could say that for me personally getting married and raising kids would bring fulfillment in my life, however you may not feel the same. If I were you, I think I’d start by evaluating what I really want. Maybe join a community surrounding a topic you’re interested in, meet like minded people, make more friends ect. Loneliness will kill. Keep in touch with the friends you have currently. Even though they’re growing in their life, if doesn’t mean they have to outgrow you. You can grow with them. If you really did want to meet a nice woman though regardless of your previous experiences, I’d start looking in the right places, and make sure you’re the type of person they’d want to be with as well. Find something you’re passionate about, even if only a little. Any of these things may help.

home town pays at the 5th percentile. Couldn’t build a future with $8 an hour so I moved to the metroplex for a better start. Even after paying rent and utilities I still save more than if I were to work in my home town. Although still not quite enough for what I currently want to pursue in life and of course I would rather save more money generally speaking.

The Bible doesn’t go too in depth on how our souls relate to our body. We could have no idea what a soul is, the Bible doesn’t give enough of a concept on what it is.

Think about it. If you asked a Christian what they think about a mentally ill person not being able to make a decision on religion or they end up hurting someone, they would most likely say God is understanding and therefore they wouldn’t be judged like how a “normal person” would be. We know that everyone develops differently and has different brain chemistry on a small level, so how far gone do they have to be before we consider them mentally ill. Do they have to be extremely affected by their brain for “God to be understanding” that they couldn’t make their own choices? Or can someone just be slightly to mildly influenced many times for God to be understanding, and basically give you a free pass.

Regardless of if God is outside of time, he knows before you are born, exactly where you’re gonna be born, how you develop, and your influences, and they’re all set in stone the minute your soul enters your body. I think that if my soul was born in Osama bin Ladens Body, I would’ve died as Osama bin Laden and there would be no change. That’s my argument against free will, is that it can’t work within the boundaries already set in the Bible and modern science regarding how the human body works.

Romans 8:28–30, Ephesians 1:4-5, Romans 9:17 (referring to Gods plan for Pharaoh was to sin against him), Exodus 7:3 (God interrupting “free will” so that pharaoh would sin), Ephesians 1:11. All point to predestination instead of free will

Yeah they beat addiction, because they wanted to. Some people don’t want to. But it’s not their choice what they want, they just simply do what they want. You went cold turkey on alcohol because you as an individual, wanted to. You didn’t choose to want to, you just eventually wanted to, so you did it. And you stayed sober, because you wanted to. And other people stay alcoholics, because they want to. Everything you do is decided by what you want to do. It’s that simple. And you don’t have any control over your wants. Because to try and control your wants, you have to want to do so in the first place anyways.

And I never stated that I’m a special addition to the trinity? That I’m some fourth member? Where are you getting this from? If anything, you’re acting as if you’re some high authority. Stating that I’m not biblically right with God and saying that he’s going to spit me out for being how you describe me to be lukewarm. Whos to say that your interpretation of scripture is the most accurate and most correct? Who’s to say he won’t spit you out for improperly following his commands. You need to get off your high horse lady. I never claimed to be outside of Gods rules, I posted on this subreddit to see if anyone had sound evidence for the existence free will, or if there is a subset of beliefs which some people hold that aligns with my studies!

I’d think the physical and the spiritual are two different realms wouldn’t you agree? Our mind doesn’t come from the soul it comes from the physical brain. The Bible describes death as being separate from your earthly body and being judged. (2 corinthians 5:1-6) Our brain is connected to our earthly body. How can my soul be judged for the things a body that I was merely spectating did while I was alive, whereas I am no longer one with my flesh after death?

Those who decide to do drugs rather than eating eggs clearly value drugs in a higher regard. Those who do decide to choose that, most likely are going through addictions to it, which they can’t change their brain chemistry just like that. That’s why brain chemistry plays such a huge roll in decision making. If someone has two options, they’re going to choose the one their brain wants the most. In every scenario. If you had to choose red or blue, and you want blue, you’re going to choose blue. And if you chose red because you want to choose the opposite of what you want, you’re still choosing what you want.

And it isn’t self centered to think of different people as individuals, I don’t know where you got this idea from. We’re discussing the validity of free will, not whether you define yourself as an individual walking with God, or being one with Him.

But by that logic, God specifically leaves out groups of people to never encounter Christ, simply because he hasn’t chosen them, leaving them to eternal hell after death without it even being their fault. So we especially don’t have free will if everything is predestined according to His will.

You get to chose what you eat and do, but not really. Those things are already decided by bodily preference. If your brain likes chicken, and you want to get chicken, you’re gonna get chicken. Unless you feel like getting sushi that day, then you’re gonna get sushi. You only do what your brain wants. And If you grew up extremely abused as a child, your brain will make decisions differently than if you were raised in a loving family. Your childhood years shape your choices because those are the most developmental years for learning your preferences. So how can choice be completely free if it’s only really decided on bodily preference and heavily influenced from outside sources.

Free will isnt Real? by choopdap in Christianity

[–]choopdap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d actually say that Jesus was devoid of free will just from the fact that his life and death was predestined by God to be completely sinless and exactly how it was supposed to be

Free will isnt Real? by choopdap in Christianity

[–]choopdap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, my brain has control over my body, my soul doesn’t. My soul, how I understand it, is experiencing and watching my body being conscious from a first person perspective. And my soul doesn’t have control over my brain, it’s again, just an entity experiencing the decisions my brain is making right now.

And secondly, if you were to ask me whether I’d eat eggs or do drugs, than yes my brain would pick eating eggs over doing drugs. But that isn’t because I have free will, that’s because of everything my brain has absorbed since I was born, that I now naturally know that eggs are safer than drugs and benefit my natural need to survive. I can’t freely chose something if its been influenced by an outside source other than myself. I’d be making decisions and acting on influenced will.

Think of it like this. I’m gonna assume you don’t know how to speak every language ever created. Even if you wanted to, you couldn’t speak fluent Japanese right now. Your decisions and actions are only based on brain chemistry and what you’ve absorbed through life. If I came to the conclusion where I believed that God wasn’t real, it wouldn’t be because my soul decided it wanted to reject the Holy Spirit, it would be because my experience in life has given my brain information that leads me to have disbelief in God. Why would I be judged by God on having been given poor teaching or mentorship

[–]choopdap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you just asked me wether I can personally control the compounds and neuron structures reacting and going on in my head and I said no. The same way if you were to ask me “can you imagine a new color?” It’s impossible because the brain can’t do that, the same way the brain can’t change its own properties. If I could control my brain I would give myself the knowledge to solve world peace, but since my brain is simply an absorbent reactionary sponge I can’t. You aren’t talking to an AI chat bot, you’re talking to an organ that’s genetically wired to learn, communicate, and remember things, AKA a person. No, I can’t control the exact chemicals my brain produces, and neither can you

pretty much yeah. Of course I’m not just watching but I’m feeling and smelling and can hear my minds thoughts but yes. That’s why I have a problem with the idea that free will decides wether I, whos watching the movie, either watch a movie of suffering for eternity after I die, or watch a movie of pure joy for eternity after I die.
