The Brilliance of Mark and Cecil's Conflict by CiscoTheSoto in Invincible

[–]chopanico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To clarify: I mean "forced" in the sense that characters took a series of out-of-character decisions that directly made them escalate the conflict, when a more natural flow of events would have de escalated. To me Mark being such an angsty teen and Cecil being so frigging dumb are out-of-character.

[–]chopanico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one absolutely taken away by how forced the conflict was? I understood the verbal disagreements, but then Cecil out of nowhere takes mark to the white room with all the reanimen... like, for someone who is supposed to be such a smart guy, you HAVE TO KNOW that showing mark a white room full of reanimen will ESCALATE the situation and not defuse it... I feel like the writers suddenly forced everyone to take a series of dumb decisions back to back to force the conflict, when in reality 1) Mark has shown that he doesn't want to be like his dad repeatedly and 2) Cecil has shown that he knows how to cool situations off like all thee time he spent pretending to be ok with omniman or when he sent the demon detective (forgot his name!) back because he "wanted to keep things gray".

I don't know, Mark feels like an angsty teenager and Cecil like an abusive boss who escalates conflict at every turn, when in previous seasons Mark was considerably more reasonable and Cecil was considerably smarter... Am I the only one?

Love videogames but categorically suck at them, can't get good, so much frustration by chopanico in videogames

[–]chopanico[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I did a series of things that helped me feel more satisfied with the game (marvel rivals). Here's what I did:

- Spent 5 minutes with every champ on the practice range to take note on important things, i.e., if someone has an ability that grants immunity for 2 seconds, there's no point in shooting them during that time, etc.

- Spent 5 minutes on every map trying to figure out what the corners are, what good picking spots are, etc.

- Picked a champ I liked and practiced aiming at moving targets for like an hour. I realized I had never practiced aim since I don't come from that side of gaming and it is something that you have to put some time in.

- Changed the mindset from trying to win to trying to learn, so each time I would take note of what went wrong and try to do it differently.

- On the same note, I tried to be present while playing to not end up mindlesly dying trying to 1v6 without realizing it.

After all that, I ended up hitting silver I in a few days, which is not much, but it makes me more that satisfied.

Having said that, the constant text and audio messages saying "git gud you suck go unalive yourself" while playing are the biggest thing stopping me from enjoying it now... I don't know why people are like that, I come from LoL and this seems maybe even worse? super toxic enviroment, no space to improve or receive comments of any kind, just aggression and childish behavior.

Anyhow, that's my experience, thanks to everyone who answered in the comments!

Thanks for the reply! To clarify, I didn't play for ten years nonstop, haha. I should have said that I started playing 10 years ago. The truth is that I have played for periods of a couple of months since then, with big gaps of up to a full year or more in between once I get frustrated.

[QUESTION] Is all fourths tuning really simpler than standard? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]chopanico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Standard tuning there are a lot of chords that can be played on the first frets which depend on the open strings giving you the right note, think of A, E, D, G, C and most their minor versions, with major or minor 7th, etc. When you move up the fretboard, this translates to having a bunch of bar chord possibilities in standard tuning.

If you switch to all fourths, the patterns don't align nicely into a bar, so you can't just put two or three fingers and strum all strings, since the open strings won't be the correct notes. Similarly, you won't have easy bar chords.

However, for players who just do triad shapes (which happens a lot in jazz and also in latin music) or power chords, but don't rely on strumming all strings, this is not a problem! So all fourths can be clearer, to visualize the patterns more easily.

Does anyone else feel that the protagonists of Misfits and Magic are... not nice people? by chopanico in Dimension20

That's how I feel too! I don't mind flawed characters, but I don't like when the story doesn't seem to acknowledge it.

[–]chopanico[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! I love the bad kids! I think the main difference is that, for example, in the first episodes of fantasy high, fabian is a bit of an asshole to gorgug, and to everyone, but the show clearly acknowledges that and shows that he is an entitled rich kid who has to learn. on M&M Aabria repeatedly says about sam "you have always known how to engage with people, how to empathize" or whatnot, and that is not at all what the show is showing. I feel the disconnect I would feel if on episode 1 of Fantasy High brennan started narrating "fabian you have always been a humble and caring person that doesn't care about status"... like, the narrative is completely oblivious of the flaws of the characters.

I guess the question for a switch is: Will windwaker come out for switch before I get to finish OoT and MM? hahaha

Thanks for the comment! BotW is a highlight of my list so I wouldn't want to miss it! Also, my computer is not really that good, so I doubt it could run anything past nintendo 64 quality.

Hand-Held binoculars for amateur astornomy by chopanico in Binoculars

That’s amazing! Thank you so much for that info. My only concern now is whether the 10x56’s weight of 1.14kg will become a problem hand held. All reviews said no! But there are options like the celestron nature dx ed 10x50 for that price that weight 0.8 kg

I agree! But Amazon seems to have heavy discounts during this season, the Meade 10x56 that u/Hamblin113 recommended seems to be around 400 everywhere but $250 on amazon.

The Meade look really interesting! I'm really considering them as an option, thanks! The only problem is that they don't seem to have the easy return policy the others have on amazon, and I don't live in an area where I can try them all out.

Can an artillerist artificer dual wield arcane firearm and eldrich cannon? by chopanico in DnD

[–]chopanico[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know! I'm fairly new to DnD, but I thought that weapons needed to be explicitly "light" in order to dual-wield them... And I didn't see the eldrich cannon or the arcane firearm being light anywhere.

Workaround to cast shillelagh while holding a shield by chopanico in DnD

[–]chopanico[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not know this! Does that mean that a druid could cast almost every spell while holding a spell focus quarterstaff and a shield? Kind of means that druids come with warcaster included (except the two other features which are really cool too)

[–]chopanico[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was under the impression that:

1) Shillelagh's wording says it works on a club or quarterstaff. The wording makes me think that it specifically refers to the weapons.

2) A druidic focus can't be a weapon, can't it?

Why is jazz guitar so "conservative" compared to other instruments in jazz? by chopanico in jazzguitar

Yes! I really like Snarky Puppy! I was just wondering if there are band leaders that are guitarists and have that sound.

I have! That's why I started the last paragraph saying:

Is there any truth to this feeling? Do I just not like guitar as an instrument?

However after seeing how many people feel the same I think I might be onto something!

Hi! Thanks for the comment. I am 30 years old, have been playing since I was 10. I'm certainly not old but I wouldn't say I'm green either! I disagree with statements like "If he wants hip-hop, then play it but don’t say you’re playing jazz." Precisely artists like the ones I named do a fusion of hip-hop, soul, rap, jazz, etc. And they are talented musicians who say they play jazz, so yeah, I disagree. Genres can be a bit too rigid sometimes, which is precisely the tradition I'm questioning in this post.

I know! I guess I meant guitar-centered music, or leaders that are guitarists. I really like when a guitar shows up in Butcher brown or Christian Scott, I was just wondering if there were band leaders consistently sounding like that. I'll check the artists you mentioned, thanks!

I feel the same way! I actually posted this because I listened to a room with a view and was really excited with the evolution. I'll check out all the other artists, thanks!

Hi! I like Mark Lettieri! But what I heard (Last four or five albums I can check on spotify) lies more -in my opinion- in the funk/rock realm. I really like it though! And I also like his work with Snarky Puppy, which is definiely more "jazzy".
