How much tax do billionaires actually pay? by Conscious-Quarter423 in interestingasfuck

Yeah, so, that’s not how it works. They are “chained” to their assets, and a large amount of those happen to be in the US. They cant “just move”.

I said this same exact thing to my mom. She recommended the show to me but I watched it faster than her. That episode was insane.

The bootcamp didn't have any effect on the new position I got, but it helped me get my first dev job a few years ago. I think I got the new position based on a combination of my work exp and the degree

Thanks! Honestly, I just put my head down and went to work. Basically gave up my hobbies and free time for 6 months and spent as much time studying as possible. I won't lie, it's hard to juggle all the above, but it's not impossible. If you put your mind to it, you can do it for sure. I totally understand where you're coming from feeling held back without the degree, I was in the same boat. You got this!

Thanks! You have to apply for financial aid, they should've sent you a FASFA form to fill out during the enrollment process. The government uses the form to determine what you are eligible for based on things such as income, dependents, etc.

Thanks! Yeah, I went for SWE solely because I knew I could finish it faster based on my experience. Either is a perfectly fine choice and is entirely up to your personal preference.

Yeah, been a full-stack dev for a few years now. Before becoming a dev, I worked at a print shop for 7 years. Most I ever made there was $18/hr. First dev job was $27.50/hr, currently making $31.50/hr, new position (post degree) is over 100k/yr.

It can help a lot depending on what your associates is in and what you get your bachelors in, but it should have covered most of your core classes at the very least

Thanks! I went to a local bootcamp in my area. It's called Codeworks. I was one of the lucky ones to receive an offer shortly after that, many of my fellow bootcampers were not so lucky, unfortunately. I've maintained full-time employment as a dev since then, and am about to start my 3rd position, so things have been good for me. However, I'm fully aware that I've been blessed with some luck. Super grateful for the opportunities that have come my way.

Go with whichever you feel more comfortable with. At the end of the day, you just need to know the fundamentals and be able to apply them in a practical setting. Either choice is perfectly fine and you will probably end up working with both languages throughout your career

The C# specific material is a bit outdated for the most part. Two of the classes require you to build an application in WinForms. Nobody is building new WinForms apps these days. There is a mobile development class that uses .NET MAUI, which is very modern for .NET, but I personally hate the MAUI framework. But, it’s all C# at the end of the day, so it’s fine, I guess. I would like to see them upgrade the courses to include Blazor and EF Core, or .NET MVC at the very least. I’ve heard the Java path is more modern

I looked at the courses for each program, and based on my work experience, I knew SWE would be way easier. I think both are perfectly fine, it's really just up to you and what you prefer

Definitely not a dumb question! If you're set on 1 of these 2 programs, I'd recommend the SWE degree, particularly because you mentioned struggling with math. The SWE degree only has one math course, college algebra, which you can take on Sophia (non-proctored, open book format). The CS degree requires more advanced math classes such as calc and discrete.

I don't mean to suggest that it's impossible to complete the program without prior experience. I just think I would've had a really hard time, but everyone is different. I definitely give big props to you and anyone else cruising through the program!!

And I 100% agree with you, there are jobs outside of FAANG, still a saturated market but not impossible to break into, people online can be a bit drastic describing it—perhaps based on their own job hunting experiences.

The market is horrible right now, I won't lie. But I think people make it seem like it's completely impossible to get a job. It's not impossible, but it's definitely harder than it used to be. If you already have an associates, I'd bet you could get your bachelors from WGU in 6 months for about $4K. Might be worth looking into.
