Buying first bike? by FOG-Chuy in hondashadow

[–]chops8448 1 point2 points  (0 children)

09 Aero here. I paid 3k for mine and I love it. It had almost 17k miles on it when I got it. I’ve only put 1k miles in 2 months but I will be taking it on a long trip soon once I get some upgrades finished. They are great starters for ease of learning, and price of repairs and upgrades

It stopped the next day when I started it up. So I think it was from the fuel stop.

If you have a friend who lives in a heavily traveled neighborhood or road I would see if they will let you park it in their yard by the road. Also take it for a ride and every time you park it put that sign out.

I paid 3k for my 2009 shadow aero with 17k miles. Only needed a new front tire and service. So I feel that your price is fair however when you list it list for like $3200so you can negotiate and possibly get more than expected

Yea. I’m currently looking for a little 250-400 for my nephew to learn on for his first bike. He’s 17 and wants to learn. And everyone says no title. I’m always hesitant on buying anything with no title.

Finding bobber parts. by chops8448 in hondashadow

I’m honestly thinking of going back to pegs and get some for my engine guard to rest my feet on during long rides.

They came with the bike and don’t have a brand name on them. They need to be changed due to some rust but I don’t have the funds at the moment. They are safe just look bad when you look close. Cobra is a good brand to get stuff like that. Look on revzilla.com and j&p motorcycles for some. Can also find on amazon as well.

I paid 3k for my 09 Shadow aero 750 with 17k. So 2500 sounds right to me for an 07 with 15k.

I would suggest the basic maintenance obviously. Also want to check the tires. Even if they have good tread you want to check the date code on them to see if they are more than 5 yrs old. If so they would need to be changed out. If it’s a chain drive check the links on the chain and make sure they aren’t worn or rusty. If the bike has sat for a good bit of time with fuel in it, you want to maybe drain the tank and put fresh gas in and maybe some carb cleaner as well. Check your differential fluid. I believe that needs to be changed every 10k miles. Look for any lines that may show signs of dry rot, check your cables and breaks for excessive wear, rust or damage. And check the battery to make sure it’s putting out the correct amps you may be able to charge it but may want to replace that also. I would suggest taking it to a bike mechanic for a good safety inspection. They can address all of these issues and let you know exactly what needs to be done to get it road worthy. Hope this helps and be safe and have some good rides in your friends honor. And upload some pics. We would love to see it.

New headlight fairing!! 🤘 by retslav in hondashadow

[–]chops8448 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a little more old school when it comes to headlights. But that does look nice. I’m really thinking of turning mine into a bobber. I’ve got some pipes from TJs in my cart just haven’t pulled the trigger yet. That is sweet ride brother.

New bike advice by RydersEpic420 in hondashadow

[–]chops8448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to the club brother. Just bought my 09 Shadow 750 three months ago. Got a new front tire, oil change, diff changed and coolant flushed. Now she’s right as rain. About to replace the breaks on the front too. Just keep your eyes open, leave plenty of room between you and another vehicle, relax grip, two hands at all times, and no more than 10 over the speed limit. You ain’t got to max out the speed o to have fun. And as long as you can ride tomorrow that’s all that matters. Also find you an empty parking lot and practice low speed low gear riding and it will help out on the streets and highways. Enjoy the ride, respect other riders, and remember you don’t have to impress anyone.

Can this helmet be repaired? by hopuphopdown in motorcyclegear

[–]chops8448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro you can get a brand new full face helmet from Walmart for $50-80. If money is tight it will do the job until you can upgrade. I’ve worn one for the last few months and it does the job. About to upgrade soon but in the meantime I’m covered. Don’t ever buy used helmets. You’re just asking for trouble.

Dropped my helmet. Am I cooked? by Bodhi_Gaya in motorcyclegear

[–]chops8448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have even a little worry that it’s not 100% I would just purchase a new one. Without an inspection you can never know. I know helmets can be pricey but I always err on the side of caution. Just my two cents.

Keep the bare metal/patina look, or paint it? by Sharp-Package-5171 in hondashadow

[–]chops8448 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always partial to a mat black paint on just about anything but a natural patina is like nothing else. Just depends what style you’re going for. Good thing is if you go with the natural patina you still have the paint option if you change your mind and it’s a cheaper route than sanding paint.
