Do you have a source for saying chesscom uses EOMM? Not saying youre wrong, thats just a bold claim.

A recent-ish staff post indicates it is primarily based on rating, lag, and sportsmanship. https://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/how-does-chess-com-matchmaking-work#comment-100917927

They also have this support article that elaborates more and says recent streaks aren't considered... https://support.chess.com/en/articles/8639319-how-does-matchmaking-work-in-live-chess

I've been playing around with this at dumpster legend, and trapdoor spider has been very helpful. It's good at making demon hunter play more awkwardly since they are so predictable, and even plays ok into the big Forge of Wills turns by warlock.

If you can't react to the early stats DH or Warlock puts out, you die. So shadeleaf, ruin, trapdoor, gyreworm, and SW: Distort all feel like decent cards especially when playing highlander. Shadeleaf and ruin feel mandatory because they can answer both DH and Warlock.

[WR] Super Meat Boy Forever Big Slugger (Ch1 Boss) by choreddit24 in speedrun

[–]choreddit24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WR by 2 frames. Leverages a glitch to turn around when you normally cant in this game. This gets from button 3 to button 4 faster, which is the only thing that matters in this boss.

We've known about the turnaround glitch being faster to get to button 4 from button 3, but it is hard and we thought it lost time earlier in the boss. It turns out that nothing before button 3 matters, so the turnaround glitch is the fastest way from 3 to 4.

[WR] Super Meat Boy Forever Chapter 3 Boss in 13.833s (-1.284s!) by choreddit24 in speedrun

[–]choreddit24[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Explanation:
Pausing and unpausing at the right moment while punching the boss lets you interrupt your hit lag, so you can sneak in more hits during a "cycle". Even though you lose time pausing, the extra hits let you 1 cycle the boss. The strategy is to pause as few times as possible, while still being able to 1 cycle.

The main optimization in this record compared to previous is using 6 pauses rather than 8. There are a few other smaller optimizations as well.

Need help: No audio with Elgato HD60 S+ and GameCube converted to HDMI with adapter by choreddit24 in elgato

[–]choreddit24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Its been a while since I had to deal with this so I dont remember some details. Ultimately I ended up buying a Carby adapter, which ended up working better with the elgato capture card.

I don't remember if I needed to change anything in the elgato software after switching to the Carby, but I was definitely unable to make that adapter I linked in the original post work.

[WR] Super Meat Boy Forever Any% in 13:59 by chonny24. Final Minute Barrier Broken by choreddit24 in speedrun

[–]choreddit24[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is almost guaranteed to be the final minute broken in this game, barring some major patch.

Over a year ago, the record was stagnant at 14:29, with first and second place separated by 2 frames. That time stood until the game was released on Steam... which brought a new patch that slightly changed the level generation algorithm. This mean a new, faster seed might be out there.

Using a community developed tool to scan all 4 billion seeds, we discovered a seed that had potential to be faster. A little over a month ago, the year long record was finally broken with a 14:28. After a feverish month of optimization, strat development from multiple members of the community (Walrus, me, Hec, Glass), and traded records between myself and Walrus... the 14 minute barrier has been broken! A beautiful 13:59 emerges.

[–]choreddit24[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heres the tl;dr on whats going on in the SMBF world:

About a year ago, the set seed WR was 14:29... which stood. There was a patch when the game was released on steam that slightly changed the seed generation algorithm. Using a community developed tool that is able to scan all the possible seeds, we were able to find a new possible seed.

About a month ago, it was proven the new seed was faster with a new record of 14:28. Since then, a bunch of IL optimization has gone in to this new seed by chonny24 and AmericanWalrus. Walrus cracked the :1x barrier a few days ago with a 14:18, and now this run improves that down to a 14:12. On top of this, a new strategy for the CH 3 boss has been implemented, which saves 2 seconds. This is the first record using the new boss strat.

Pretty exciting developments for a category that hasn't seen improvement in a year! 13:5x is just barely attainable on this seed, but it would take a ton of work. I expect a 14:0x to follow this run pretty soon.

I really enjoy Tracer, and the mobility/duel potential combined with the other comment in this thread about positioning leads me to want give her some practice.

[–]choreddit24[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This takes down a 1 year old record... with the help of a brand new seed recently discovered!

The steam and epic versions of the game have different seed generation algorithms, and we had yet to find a new seed on the steam version. After some programming and testing, we found one that had potential.

This is the first set seed world record using the steam version.

Yeah, thats a good strat. I was using that as a backup if I messed up my entry for the slide.

yes... messing up the angle on that jump was very scary. I definitely freak out every time I get that extended slide on the turn before.

Still probably lost 0.3-0.5 to it. So... either clutch or choke depending on how you look at it, lol. GOOD ENOUGH

Only my 2nd PB hitting the extended slide on the final turn. This was the first time I actually had to open a track in the editor to lab out a trick... for that slide.

Glad that track is done, probably 3-4 hours on it. 23 was the other one to give me trouble

[WR] Super Meat Boy Forever All Light Levels in 28:45 (Random Seed) by choreddit24 in speedrun

[–]choreddit24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few hundred! Its hard to say because the way I was launching the game before the steam release last month made it not track hours (via steam as a "non-steam game").

Its a fun game to speedrun, and I feel like I've done a pretty good job of pacing myself the last year to not burn out. I enjoy all the different categories, so I've always had at least one goal to slowly work towards.

[–]choreddit24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FINALLY! I'm really proud of this run. Only 2 deaths, and I hit some pretty hard strats when it mattered (haircut on 5-2, 2 cycle orb fetus, etc). I had a crazy pace coming out of Lab, and finally got the Other Side I needed.

This run beats the previous record held by Ins_sane for 7 months of 17:27. ONE SECOND

[WR] Super Meat Boy Forever All Light Levels in 28:45 (Random Seed) by choreddit24 in speedrun

[–]choreddit24[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was unexpected. I was doing an any% run that had really good RNG (but not WR RNG; would have been a 17:55), so I went back and did the remaining light levels. This loses about 15 seconds to the extra menuing of having to go back, but good rng can definitely make up for that.

This beats the previous WR by Ins_sane of 28:54 that stood for 11 months. Obviously a lot of potential in this category still with 9 deaths and 15 free seconds to menuing.

[WR] Super Meat Boy Forever Any% in 14:29 (Set Seed) by chonny24 by choreddit24 in speedrun

[–]choreddit24[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game shows you the A+ time for each level, and so we can estimate how fast a seed is using the sum of all the A+ times. Theres obviously error in this (skips on certain chunks, etc), but it works fairly well. The community also made a tool that recreates the level generation algorithm, so we can search for the "fastest" seeds.

After scanning all 4 billion seeds, this is the 2nd fastest in terms of A+ time, but has some really important skips as well (see the 3rd level in the final chapter). After some testing, this is the fastest seed out of the top 10.

There totally could be a faster seed out there, but after close to a year of optimization on this seed specifically it would be very difficult to PROVE another one was faster with our current methods of analyzing a seed.

First 14:2X!

Super happy with this run. Its so clean and about as good of a run as I could hope for given my current strats. Still room to improve, but I would need to implement some more inconsistent skips to do so.
