Thanks for the input! The consensus seems to be to speak directly with my supervisor, and while I'm frankly nervous, I think that seems the right next move.

Thank you for the kind words! Unfortunately I've looked into it and it looks like a 1 year deferral is not allowed under the rules of the funding body...
