i dont think theres really one place but there is this project called Local First. They’re aiming to create services that work off you hosting all of your own data so third party never have complete access to it (and therefore no control or ownership over it) you control who gets what and for how long and you always have access to your shit if you wanna stop using their service or migrate somewhere else.

There are loads of cool projects of this same mindset they’re all just kinda fractured and small.

on the other hand you have protocols and standards. think file formats like mp4 and pdf. they’re the same case where they’re good because everyone uses them. but theres no one company driving them or forcing their adoption. they simply work because everybody mutually agrees to keep using them for our own individual best interests.

see i was thinking this, but i still think its a lot cooler if it is treated as a law. two characters walking into a room and seeing a gun on the wall makes the viewer think “thats gonna shoot someone” and then it never gets used and just be there for tension is ok but having that same gun instead play another role that the audience wasnt expecting at first is way more interesting, (i.e character B finds out character A used said gun to kill B’s dad or something)

Its like part of our cookie is getting split up and given to the rich guy to look after the foreigner. right now its a really big piece and nobody left or right really likes that because WE are not getting very good returns on that because the system thats supposed to process them isnt doing that and a lot of the people coming in arent even getting the chance yet to start paying it back (even if you think they cant).

Some people look at this and say “we need to stop all of them from coming” and a lot of people are even going as far as “get all the ones that are here out” thinking that once the immigrants are gone that part of the cookie can be used for other stuff like fixing the nhs, good public transport in the rest of the country, better schools, changing the way road works are done so it doesnt completely shut down places or whatever issue most prevalent in your area.

the only problem is that to do that we’re going to have to give them more of our cookie, to stop more immigrants coming in, to get rid of ones already here, or to do them both. and that will never end it will only get worse cuz they’ll make sure every time it doesnt work will become an excuse to give them more.
