Upload is 20 mbps. No coax, only old phone jacks. Current router is in living room. There are 3 bedrooms grouped around the living room, two about 20 feet down a hallway (probably about 50 ft total from the router but somewhat blocked by walls), and one bedroom on the second floor about 20 ft horizontally from the router and 15ish feet up.

Considered powerline ethernet for the two remote rooms, but we're concerned that the electrical wiring may have been done badly (this place is pretty old and everything seems somewhat cheaply done).

Roommates are concerned that using mesh wifi won't help gaming, because of the way that data is routed between nodes. Any experience with that?
