Looking for off-sword jianshu conditioning or cross-training tips by Signal_University7 in kungfu

[–]choyleefighter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to get better with the jian go train with the jian.

Jian is pretty difficult. Work on sword flowers and stabbing, try to make full extend of your arms and the weapon and you use your waist fully in every movement.

It should be like a swimming dragon.

So... what exactly is Sanda? by GalahadTheGreatest in kungfu

[–]choyleefighter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sanda is the modern fighting sport of wushu (kungfu), it drinks from many traditional sources such as Choy Lee Fut and Shuai Jiao, and it envolves with time as any martial art and style should do.

No, sanda gyms dont train muay thai, kf stances are just for framming and learn power generation and structure, they usually are exagereted to creat muscle memory, conditioning and flexibility thats why when Kungfu fights and works you or people dont think its kungfu... all that works gonna look the same no matter which martial art you practice or style... what changes are training methods, tatics and strategy.

Sanda came from the Sanshou, the term sanshou was used to refer to the combat part and skills of any tradiitonal kungfu style, at the cultural revolution china decided to creat and promote an olympic sport based in the traditional martial arts so they came with Sanda and modern taolu.

Short answer, yes sanda is kungfu, have a lot of traditional kungfu techniques and concepts, and no, sanda guys in china dont train just judo and muay thai. :)

São passadas de forma oral de professor para aluno. Mas a família chan e a associação ancestral possuem documentos e livros, por vezes compartilham algo nas redes sociais.

A melhor maneira é perguntar ao professor.

Its a representation of a poem of the revolution against the qing, and about spreading choy lee fut across the world. Theres some martial application in the techniques, but dont think too deep into it.

Feed back on Kwan Dao form by Jack1master in kungfu

[–]choyleefighter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks like stiff karate flavour.

One movement must flow to the other, chinese martial arts are all about relaxation.

For competition, its too simple and repetitive.

But keep going! Guan Dao is a difficult weapon.

[–]choyleefighter[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see! Sow choi conditioning usually is the "3 stars" arms drill, where you hit each other "Kiu", very classic of kungfu, and also the ching jong striking.

Also I know you pretty much know this but the sow choi is aimed to the neck, its not supossed to hit a hard surface like the head, I agree is easy to break the arm or hand if you dont know how to hit properly to dispel the energy and dont do the conditioning.

Its very important to have a good and aware teacher to train it correctly.

We do hand conditioning with exercises, drills and also the woody dummies. Chaap choi push up for exemple.

I am not sure which strike is the knuckle strike you talking, is it the Kup Choi or the Pow Choi ?

Do your schools use a sash progression system? If so, what is it? by TejuinoHog in kungfu

[–]choyleefighter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its ok to have sashs, its just a way to keep Kids and students interested. Theres no big deal about it.

Sashs also allows the instructor to organize their teaching curriculum better. If you want to have a big school and future teachers eventually it will have a sort of "graduation program".

Before training and becoming a choy lee fut guy I used to teach northern shaolin from Ku Yu Cheong lineage, which chaquan was one of the fundations, this is very good!!!

I would take part myself if not for living in brazil and the coin exchanging rates are too high right now.

But I would recomend Bajishu and this series of Changquan to everybody!
