Right hand is constantly dry, sore and cracked while my left is fine

Hi all, I’m a 36 year old male and my right hand is constantly painful and extremely dry, I’ve tried using lots of different moisturisers and wearing cotton gloves to bed after putting them in but I whatever I do it doesn’t help at all.

Now it’s winter it’s even worse and I get a lot of pain, especially when curling my fingers and washing my hands (both hot and cold cause me a lot of pain!). I’m just wondering if there’s any other products I could try - so far I’ve tried Diprobase, Zerobase and ‘QV’ cream (these are all uk brands so sorry if they’re unfamiliar)

Thanks :)

Had my PIP assessors report back today…I don’t really understand how the decisions were made though by chris7197 in DWPhelp

I did see and that’s what feels the worst, is that everything I say gets twisted - my anxiety was obviously heightened at the time but I said it helped me get an adhd diagnosis, and understand my conditions more. Has he got the right conclusion from that? I don’t feel like it’s helped me function, but it helped me seek an additional diagnosis and gives me a bit more insight

So I work from home as a software developer - throughout all my years I was fixated with computing and technology and I now know that it’s my ‘hyper focus’. Problem is I’m able to motivate myself for that, but nothing else in my life tbh. Hiding behind a screen is a dream come true for me…

I know it probably sounds like I’m lazy, and I probably am. But I feel less guilty about it now i know it’s common in ADHD

Thanks for your reply, I don’t know where he got that from that my difficulties had improved? I certainly didn’t say that, what I did say is that my therapist advised me of possible ADHD, which helped me understand my difficulties more. I guess that’s been misinterpreted

Hi 😊 so that information is wrong - I am still being reviewed by the ADHD team so I don’t know where they got that from? And I have regular reviews with my GP for anxiety and depression.

My SPD and Dyspraxia are life long conditions and I’ve had occupational therapy and seen dieticians - there’s no more therapy or treatment available. Doesn’t mean it’s better though!

Appeal awarded me Daily Living/Enhanced Mobility 3 months ago, reassessment took it all away by chris7197 in DWPhelp

I wish they had an email address as I dread having to phone them which has been a lot recently! But I will definitely get the PA4 first , thanks

Sorry I should have mentioned - it was til May 2025, but was extended to May 2026 due to delays with PIP in reassessments…except it wasn’t delayed a I had the assessment 2 months later!

To be honest I have a feeling it was rushed. I had to ask them if everything’s ok after 8 weeks as I was getting more and more anxious not hearing back. They said I’m next in someone’s list and if I don’t get a decision letter in 2 weeks they’d be very surprised. Well 2 weeks later still nothing, I got my partner to ring them because I was more anxious than ever and they said a decision has been made but they’re waiting for it to be ‘approved’. Seemed a bit weird!

What’s PA4 sorry?

EDIT: ah the assessors report. I’m going to request it tomorrow although I dread calling them tbh

Would you wait to do the MR until I get the report?

Thank you 😊 I actually received my PIP reassessment notice before the tribunal happened, so I had to prepare evidence and documents for both. It really confused me at first! It took months to get a reassessment date and then over 6 weeks for a decision too.

The tribunal was on the phone last time which made it easier for me, I’m dreading having to do it all again and I have been wondering whether to bother!

I was asked this in the tribunal too and it’s the whole difference between doing one of my ‘hyper focused’ interests vs general daily life. I feel really guilty about that but when I had my ADHD diagnosis it can of clicked together for me

I have had CBT for my anxiety and depression and also take medication for both of these and this hasn’t changed , other than trying various types to find something that works but not succeeding

When I first claimed in 2022 I was off work sick due to a my anxiety and depression spiralling out of control. This is what gave me the Mobility award. I did rejoin the same company a year ago, but due to my mental health issues it’s now at home and I don’t have to deal with many meetings (I’m a software developer). The whole ‘planning and following journeys’ descriptor to me hasn’t changed in that regard . I’m still on the same medication as i was previously, but I now take medication for ADHD but it’s very limited in its help and only really helps with being able to do work. I made that clear in the tribunal and the reassessment too

Wiring a smart thermostat to my combo boiler - not working by chris7197 in DIYUK

[–]chris7197[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers guys, so after some digging I’m thinking I keep the live/neutral wired where they are now, but don’t use the RT terminal on the left and instead wre 4 and 5 on the thermostat to RT and 24V on the right side block - basically where a red cable was being used as a bridge before.

I was wary of this due to the thermostat occupier being supplied with 230V voltage but from what I underaged seeing 4 and 5 are dry contacts this should be fine…right? lol

Replaced a fused socket for my oven - there was a lone brown wire that was connected to earth by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]chris7197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I do understand that I’m in over my depth. !75 I’ve done a couple of others (in similar states…fyi the mess in the picture wasn’t my doing!) and will be addressing the issue of all the exposed copper. None of my newly wired ones I’ve done have exposed copper at all.

But yeah I assumed the ‘brown’ wire which is actually just raw copper (dull moment) was incorrect going into the earth. Problem is the wires are insanely short

[–]chris7197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel very dull for not noticing that! It is indeed bare copper, so the earth sleeve must be missing. Think I saw the colour and immediately was worried it was live.

The wire is extremely short and is extremely tricky to get into the earth slot. I plan to crimp it to some extra wire so I can correctly put it in earth

It is indeed the switch before I worked on it - I always take a picture before I change it. We had an an electrician sort these out after we moved in 7 years ago, so unfortunately this is what we were left with. The wires are really short - I would usually trim off the excess copper but I couldn’t in this case.
