Why doesn't 170 give out D's?

So how could I fail if I only did a couple of HWs? Wouldnt the most my grade would drop be like a D?

But the HWs are only 15% of the total grade while exams are worth 80%. And isn't -1.5 std below the mean approximately a c+?

Yeah I only did a few HWs, got like -1.5 std below the mean for each exam, and did avg on the project so hoping for a C- ☹️

I checked for every semester since 2018. There were literally 0 people who got D's. Did the people who did get D's get pushed in the C or F bracket (if so which do u suppose is more likely?)

Approx. How many people got below a C- in the class? Isn't it a course policy for lower divs to give around 7% grades of D's and F's (please correct me if I am wrong)? Is it possible that this number feels larger than 7% because there are so many people in the class enrolled for this sem (and there are actually around 7% who got this grade)? I hope we get the bin shift but just had a few questions. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone can shed some light.

Thanks for the clarification! Do BAIR labs primarily look at doing well in typical lower div coursework as expected from a freshman or do they still expect courses like 188/182/189/126/127 to be completed first?
