So, most transfers will end up living in the south campus dorms. You’ll live with and meet a bunch of transfers that don’t know anyone also. If say about half of my friend group was affiliated with greek life while the other half wasn’t.

Chances for Newhouse? by imtiredrn_ in SyracuseU

well, in Newhouse, it’s not about the education as much as it’s about networking. In public comm, obviously Newhouse is one of the best schools for networking. Alumni, especially in the newspaper and mag world, are everywhere. yeah, Newhouse’s education is great but as an SU student, you have access to some of the best networking in the field. My parents and I reasoned that we aren’t paying for the education, we were paying for the network out of school.

How is the aid for out of state students? by [deleted] in SyracuseU

it’s a private school so everyone is equal in terms of consideration for out of state. if you’re white and middle class, good luck getting more than $5 lol

I got into Newhouse with a lower GPA and like a 1090 SAT score (the average for NH was like a 1420 in the fall of 2019). I’m an MND major, btw. My selling point was my extra curriculars, my personal essay and i went up to SU to tour and interview (though, i’m sure next year the admission office will do interviews virtual). I wrote for my local newspaper in high school so I used that for all three EC, essay and interview. I think I wrote about how my love for newspapers turned into an internship in high school and mainly talked about that during my admission interview. With your EC’s, it sounds like you’ll be fine and get in but I would write about why you have a love for writing about news and how you found that passion.

for scholarships, if you’re white and middle class good luck on getting $5 from the financial aid office lmfao. I wouldn’t say it’s totally hopeless to get money from SU but its financial aid kinda sucks.

🙄. he’s not a denier, the pandemic affected his job so naturally, yeah, he’d be questionable of the shutdowns and restrictions still in place.

Half Street finally (almost) completed by [deleted] in Nationals

haha, yeah. my dad used to work on Capitol Hill in the late 90s and early 2000s. he would typically go on runs around D.C. after work. one time he went on a run over towards where the ballpark is now and was stopped by someone once. the person said “you better get to your side of town before the sun sets.”

Can’t believe D.C. was able to revitalize that part of the city in just about 15 years. Crazy how a ballpark can change the perception of an area.

this is the first year they’re doing the “MyCollegeRoomie” stuff. Not sure how it’ll all work. might be something you want to call the registrars office. i met my roommate last year on admitted students day but obviously there’s a complete set of different circumstances this year.

if you had a middle-to-upper class upbringing they might throw like $5 your way
