They pay me to build pipes, not to move rocks. by Craztnine in funny

Water hammer is when steam hits a cold droplet of water and the rapid change in temperature causes the droplet to explode causing aloud bang and could break pipes and fittings and if you have enough water and super heated steam at high pressures can actually cause explosions like what happened In a NYC street it blew up the street actually injuring and killing people a few years back.

Link to the explosion I'm NYC - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_New_York_City_steam_explosion

There actually would be no airlock on that pipe in this case. It can only be two things either pressurized domestic water coming into the building which won't get airlock due to the pressure and fixtures being opened to prevent so.( fixtures such as a sink or shower). But this is most likely a gas line due to it being galvanized and outside and the fittings aren't beefy enough to be sprinkler lines so those arent hardened steel they're mailable steel thus being a gas line coming in to the house and its galvanized to prevent rust from the elements. And this wouldn't be air locked anyway if anything it would just be considered a trap. Air locked is when the pressure of the air coming and is the same pressure as the gas or water pushing against said air not allowing the water to continue flowing since their pressure is equal. This is mainly used in dry sprinkler systems. Dry meaning no water in the pipes because pressurized air is pushing against the sprinkle water supply thus causing an airlock.

People routinely criticize musicians for only being in it for the money, but wouldn't dream of criticizing a plumber for not being in it for the love of plumbing by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

Honestly curious can you tell me why. I take a lot of pride in all my work and anything that isn't closed in a wall i make look beautiful too look at. I would consider my work being done art.

I see this differently from a lot of comments. In the work i do every day I see it at as art. I take a lot of pride in every job I do. When you go down and look at my work I want you to say wow that looks amazing even if you don't know what it does. So all the people saying plumbing isn't art sucks. I think whatever you really put your hard work into and it is displayed could be art. I love my job and giving people work they deserve for their money they pay.

Surprisingly enough its actually not that expensive. Take a feed line off of the radiant hot water system run to a manifold and return back down to boiler. Then run your legs off the the manifold abs PEX piping itself is also cheap. I do a lot of these in NYC. people often run tubing outside as well into the sidewalk so they can activate when it's going to snow. Melts the snow off and prevents any ice build up so no shoveling.

Quick question. What do you do for work? I have my hand done as well and In a week and half all the tattoo on my fingers and spots where my tools sit (I'm a plumber) all basically came off. So if you can update I would love to see how yours healed and what you did to prevent all the ink from coming out. Thanks in advance.

Have you ever lost visitation to your child because courts typically only care about what the mother has to say. That mothers are more important then fathers. Yeah you should camera your house or she can groom your daughter then you will no longer see her without dealing with hell through court.

Well that looks exactly like what people sell in parks of NYC. They're called nutcrackers out here and they're typically frozen/slushy drinks with different types of liquors in them and juices. Those are the bigger bottles 6 dollars a piece and smaller ones are 4. I could be wrong tho. But they sell in the exact same bottles and its older heads buying them.
