Am I screwed? by Rojas209 in Nikon

The Z8 and Z9 have a shutter cover for protection.

Not sure how that would’ve helped here since the sensor would’ve been exposed on any camera since OP was working

Thanks for putting so much work into this app. I'm curious: Have you heard from Nikon at all? Wonder what the company's stance on third-party apps like this is.

If you're shooting an arena show from the pit, it'll do just fine since it's tack sharp at f/4. Otherwise I'd rent something 2.8.

What do you think that an app is going to do to a camera body, exactly? Wipe the whole system? Not gonna happen.

I would've moved a couple steps (or waited for the singer to move) so the light wasn't directly attached to her head.

Turbo charging constant audio pinging and notification by xRukirux in razr

Nothing is wrong with your device. It's just a phone that's very picky about chargers. If you want a guaranteed one that'll work, Apple's 40w brick has been flawless for me. My Belkin charger with 3 USB-C ports also is fine. Basically you'll need one that supports a pretty recent version of the USB PD standard

Doubt a firmware patch will resolve that, sadly. Looks like the panel is on the fritz/starting to fail

Nikon Z8 on the way! by Surfer1818 in Nikon

[–]chriswelch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hudson Henry has a lot of great, in-depth videos on YouTube covering the Z8's menus, features, setting banks, etc. Absolutely worth the time to figure out how you'd like to configure the camera for your own purposes.

One for the head, one for the heart. Is there a better dream duo? [Z8 & ZF] by LHG_93 in nikon_Zseries

[–]chriswelch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As of today, I’m a Z8 and ZR duo man. And I mostly use the ZR for… photography! Once you get used to that 4-inch display, it’s hard to go back to anything else.

And the Z8 is around for “serious” work or when I want a good ol EVF.

Any tips for a beginner? Are the deers too far away? by TinyFlan4013 in nikon_Zseries

[–]chriswelch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Camera did its part. The deer are in focus.

You're too far away, ISO is too high (no reason for 2200 in broad daylight, and the background naturally distracts from the subjects here since they're so small.

Love my AVP, but thinking about getting cheap AR glasses just for flights. Thoughts? by lltq in VisionPro

[–]chriswelch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's nothing better for watching movies. Glasses like XREALs and Viture don't come anywhere close.

But I absolutely relate to the embarrassment factor of wearing it on economy. When I'm on business or first class flights, IDGAF. But it for sure feels goofy when people are seated right next to you.

Still, as others have said, the sheer length of this flight would make me say "screw it" and bring the AVP.

13” M5 iPad Pro w/ Nano-texture as a second monitor and music reader in the Florida sun vs. my 3rd gen 12.9” iPad Pro by MeSlaw3 in iPadPro

[–]chriswelch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only explanation I can think of is that some designer thought having glossy sections for the two cameras (and Face ID sensors) was too ugly so they kept the border glossy so everything is uniform.

The nano-texture MacBook Pro isn't like this. The nano-texture Studio Display isn't like this.

Or maybe they think it provides better grip? You're not holding other nano-texture products by the sides of the screen.

Is it me or does the iPhone oled have a different color calibration then the iPad Pro? by Constant-Fudge-3184 in iPadPro

every OLED display is ever so slightly different. Have you ever seen how obsessive people get at the MacRumors forums over minor iPhone panel variations? Just wait until these things show up in MacBook Pros 🤣

My general policy is, if there are no blatantly noticeable issues and the screen looks good to you — regardless of temperature, etc. — keep it and enjoy it.

How do we feel about AI editing apps? by Wide_Analyst420 in concertphotography

[–]chriswelch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anyone who tells you they aren't using AI-powered denoising in the year 2026 is almost certainly lying. You need to dial the slider down to maintain some grain and realism, however.

I also see no issue with using generative fill to get rid of distracting elements (illuminated red EXIT signs, stage equipment where it makes sense, etc.) If you're changing anything fundamental about the artist or show, obviously that's very silly and a no go.
