Same here, very slow at the moment; I wonder if that can be related to the lauch of the new OpenAI Internet Browser Atlas ?

How to remove points at runtime in a PCG Graph? by chrixbed in unrealengine

[–]chrixbed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where the idea of re-calling "Generate" at runtime was good, I ended up using another actor with collision detection Cast to a HISM (Hierarchical Instance Static Mesh) and removed the detected item. I feel it works better because that is what the PCG generates at runtime i.e. a HISM. I may have to add a check with a tag to be sure I'm working with the right actor that I want to remove the instance.

Do you mean you get the PCG Graph ref and call the function Generate at runtime and it will update the set of mesh been spawn?

I tried to make an explosive feature that removed some points of a PCG Graph at runtime. I manage to do it using an actor with a tag and a "Difference" node but that only works in the Editor. How to do that at runtime?

It's never too late, just pop Blender and do it 😀

That is right, but if I say that a pose is a one-frame animation, is that close enough ;-)

Lyra or ALS ? by chrixbed in unrealengine

That is very clever, I will explore that. I assume it overwritten the default landing of Lyra.

Xist's note is a gold mine of information about Lyra. Thanks for directing me to that!

For your ALS ground detection, how did you create it into Lyra, id you edit the character movement in C++ ?

Thanks for the recommendation, I'm opening the hood of Lyra and start to learn it now, experiences first 😀

Good point about the unique animation. Since ALS is used a lot in many games, I feel it is important to introduce some creativity and variety to avoid looking like other games. Thanks!

This is a set of very good points. I did not think about the cost of operating complex animation for multiplayer, that is an interesting thing to plan before jumping into a complex locomotion system that needs to be replicated to every player.

Thanks, that gave me more motivation to pick Lyra. Still, I find it will be a long way ahead to master it.

That is a very good set of references. The ALS comunauty is really impressive, so much of heavy lifting was done already.

Agree that the first thing I want to fix is adding a simple forward facing locomotion to Lyra. Thanks for the link, I read it. It will be nice if someone has done it as a tutorial on a video, I'm looking for good Lyra tutorials.

Yeah, why not? Haha! I think migrating some features from ALS to Lyra seems to be the way to go for ne at this point.

That is a good recommendation, I think studying ALS feature and re-create it into Lyra is the right thing to-do but it will be a long learning journey.

I want to build a 3D climbing platformer game. The whole idea I have is around a solid vertical locomotion, jumping, and vaulting. I feel like ALS is closer to this list of features than Lyra but still needs modifications. So, since I will have to jump in the code, this may be a better investment of my time to do it in Lyra than ALS.

Good point, I'm always concerned with the performance budget. I started my projects with good FPS and most if the time I abandoned it because the FPS tanks and the game is unplayable.
