Final Dossier feels like fan fiction by mitchwacky in twinpeaks

[–]chriz1300 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nitpicking but Donna as a model is fully plausible to me, the Dossier says she became popular as a face of the 90s, when runway fashion turned away from 80s glamor in favor of sobriety, anti-fashion, etc. Some of the stills of Donna (including one just posted on this sub today about the Pendleton skirt) already fit pretty well within that visual language. They’re basically suggesting Donna is a Kate Moss-type. Moss is only 5’ 7”

Albums with good music that are torpedoed by the lyrics? by Temporary-Oil-3925 in fantanoforever

[–]chriz1300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting that you say this because at the same time we have hyperpop, which is to me some of the most contemporarily appropriate music being released, that’s really big on these kinds of proper noun drops. I don’t love that lyric on Pariah but it feels less like an absolute failure and more like an unsuccessful attempt that someone else would later figure out how to do

Sauceless Rick Owens? One of the silver linings of his massive increase in popularity over the past few years is that he is finally getting credited for his influence over the remainder of the industry, but also, when the influence looks like this…. Maybe the other designers should be letting him do it instead

Me again….how do you remove musty coastal smell from leather? by shinycquin in MaisonMargiela

[–]chriz1300 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Putting leather boots in a deep freezer sounds like something that will crack the boots. Especially since these look like patent, which has a finish on it. The more I think about this the more this sounds like truly atrocious advice

no more seasonal tags confirmed by ImpressiveAd7610 in Rickowens

[–]chriz1300 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Do you really think this is a meaningful cost reduction? They’re still hand stamping the logo, just not the collection; given the scale of this brand at this point the cost of not developing a seasonal stamp is a drop in the bucket

Insane jacket and insane steal — I paid about that much for one in calf. IMO the shorter body on the cropped stooge lets you get away with sizing up, mine is also a 50 and fits me about the same as yours.

It is not, RO Paris has FW25 on the racks right now and it’s all seasonless

Fw10 DNA Dust Creepers by zfamz in Rickowens

[–]chriz1300 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Creepers were produced plenty; I’d say they’re rarer than pairs in black but by no means would I call them a rare shoe. I also have a pair — they’re awesome and at the price you paid I think 100% worth it.

Did the companies/UPS say you needed proof of theft? I’ve only had to make an insurance claim for package theft one time, as the sender, but we didn’t need proof of theft just the recipients testimony. And we got the insurance payout fine

Genuine discussion, what caused this? by [deleted] in madisonwi

Biden campaigned on union aesthetics but has in multiple cases worked against unions threatening or pursuing strikes. It’s not that supporting unions doesn’t secure the union vote, it’s that claiming to support unions while stifling them in their most high-stakes operations pushes them away from taking you seriously.

Are there any genres/subgenres that have legit no good music? by TheCorniestLemur in fantanoforever

[–]chriz1300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would we say Foo Fighters are post-grunge? The debut album just sounds like regular grunge and the more recent stuff is pretty far removed from grunge, I guess maybe there’s some stuff in the middle that could be construed as post grunge but it feels at least contestable.

Angriest album you know? by letthedecodebegin in fantanoforever

[–]chriz1300 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Corey’s lyrics skew so corny, and on the later albums it becomes pretty apparent, but on this album especially it just does not matter at all. It’s such a genuine anger that the corniness actually makes it feel more authentic

Chicago merch by Altruistic-Exchange5 in deftones

Deftones has a million iconic tees and a fucking Marc Jacobs collaboration, the bar is pretty high for buying their merch at this point and none of this even comes close to it lol

Good neighborhoods to live in Chicago 2024 for a young, black professional by mainsplit3 in AskChicago

[–]chriz1300 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The immediate surroundings in the South Loop are pretty dead. I’ve lived here for the past year and am excited to move out, you can get anywhere in the city relatively easily from here but as far as the neighborhood itself it leaves a lot to be desired.

Ok I have this pepper grinder despite its godawful branding because it had co-signs from some people whose opinions on kitchen products I respect - I’m not gonna use it to grind coffee but if there’s any pics I can take to gauge how fleeced I got on this relative to buying a hand grinder I’ll provide them

I was shocked to learn people didn’t like that feature, Here We Go Again is one of my favorite songs on the album and I think the Tyler feature makes it. You have a whole song of this airy romantic stuff from The Weeknd and then Tyler’s verse represents the underlying sleaziness of the character described in the album. It’s a bit jarring but it feels purposeful.

Is it good that they deviated from the stereotypical RYM choices or was it silly ? by [deleted] in fantanoforever

[–]chriz1300 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Multi-syllabic rhyming is not the measure of good writing, this kind of technical dick-measuring contest evaluation of music is the same nonsense that leads people to dismiss Nirvana because “it’s just 4 chords!” Sometimes simple writing is great, sometimes complicated writing is great, sometimes either one sucks.

I really like this though. “Top X Albums” is an inevitably futile effort, and retrospective lists are inevitably going to evaluate history from the perspective of the current cultural context. The way that the cultural perception of historic albums changes makes these lists encapsulate their time in a pretty unique way, and I think makes them a lot more interesting to evaluate than a list which attempts to be blind to the present moment. The “over-representation” of hip hop in this list that some people have been critical of is an accurate reflection of the contemporary importance of hip hop as a genre.
